Default Clovis or Atascadero?

Dear friends,

I am a foreign pharmacist who is applying for an internship in California and I have to choose between Clovis or Atascadero. Please would you be so kind to help me? The thing is that I am a single female and I am going to do my intership alone (without my family) and would like some advice from you. some friends have told me that I need a place in which there are not so many people in order to have enough time to study while I am working, also a secure place and with a nice weather.
I would really appreciate if you would be able to help me.

Regards,

Cecilia

Both would be considered safe, quiet, family oriented towns.

Since you don't think you will have as much time to take advantage of activities in the areas, that would be of less importance.

I would point out that Clovis has the benefit of next to Fresno which allows you to access to some professional support. Atascadero would have fewer opportunities for that.

Fresno is home to a 4th year pharmacy clinical rotation program affiliated with UC San Francisco, which means you might get the chance to meet other pharmacy students and/or take advantage of some other professional education resources.

Clovis is not a bad town, but it is very hot in the summer and very foggy in the winter. Just something to consider.

Yep, according to the National Weather Service the average is about 35 days a year over 100 degrees in summer and about 35 days of thick fog a year in winter. Not perfect like the coast but no snow and very low humidity which beats many other parts of the US.

And of course there are about 20 days a year of bad air quality.

But then there are also the days like this for over half the year. The Tour of California riders got their first good days of riding last week when passing through the Central Valley.

Riders approaching Clovis on Feb 18 with the Sierras in the background.

Waiting for the bicyclists along Clovis Avenue north of Old Town Clovis.

Riders on Feb 19 riding west out of Visalia toward the coast.

Atascadero. Nicer area. Better weather.
