In Reference to the I Hate Santa Barbara thread...
Name me three more beautiful towns of approximately the same size. Go!
In the U.S., mind you!

This was a challenge greater than any could accomplish. Thanks for playing our game! Fabulous prizes for anyone in future generations of city data mavens to come up with a convincing answer.

I'd say Lompoc, Ca, but it's only 42,000 in pop. (Don't be making fun now! ).
I'll say Santa Monica!!

Boulder Colorado is a pretty fair comparison to Santa Barbara: beautiful surroundings, liberal, affluent college town. Pop. 93k..

Since beauty is completely subjective, there's no way this thread can really go anywhere, is there? I could name places that I think are beautiful and you might find them hideous....so there's not much point.

I disagree with both assertions. Santa Barbara is prettier than Gary, Indiana is true for the vast majority of reasonable and sane people.
By the same standard of using a reasonable person's perception, a "beautiful" place is just as unlikely to be considered "hideous" by the vast majority of reasonable and sane people.
SLO and Boulder merit attention. Lompoc though seems a more questionable pick.

I'd have to say Monterey and Carmel
http://www.sothebyshomes.com/images/...orhood/163.jpg
these two towns are both coastal, quaint if not a little cleaner beaches and less overcrowded than santa barbara.
I'd also have to add to the list : mendocino
santa cruz (as someone also mentioned)
SLO
Napa
and theres probably some others I haven't even mentioned that qualify as similar
there is going to be no two towns that are identical ( maybe close but not identical)
and i have to agree with the poster above, unless you give us some criteria on what you find would make a similar comparison to SB than this isn't a very good question.
-comming from a resident of the SB area.
thanks
