Capt.Dan, what the h*ll. If Obama sent out an email and or if any black official did what you are saying it would make the news for sure and it wouldn't be seen as being humorous. It is not about whitey being forgiven and in case you didn't get the memo many people of color are still being discriminated against. There is a time and place for everything and the email just wasn't funny.

I do understand what Capt is saying, should the guy had sent the email on? In his position, no, but there does come a time when some are too sensitive.. I won't go into detail about a joke when Reagan was pres and it was way before he became ill. It related to he and Nancy ordering in a restaurant and was very funny, but many would have found it a total insult to him..those of us with a sense of humor did not find it an insult. We all have to be able to lighten up a little and stop worrying about being PC all the time.

If we can't laugh at ourselves who can we laugh at?

Nita

nmnita, I am one who can take a joke and am not always PC. But would you make a sensitive joke about your boss & or head/owner of a company amongst co-workers and publicly where people your company does business with also hears the joke as well? If it is really tasteless you could be fired and or asked to resign. This Mayor made an inappropriate joke about the leader of our government and frankly the watermelon joke/insult is very old.

How about the injustices of the present?

People in public office and other high ranking positions will always be expected to act politically correct. They are in positions of power and are expected to act accordingly. That's life. If you want to be able to laugh at this kind of stuff amongst friends, don't get into public office.

I have a few black friends that I can joke with and they can joke with me in regards to race. But it's quite different if someone who doesn't know us were to hear us joking like that. If our nation's history wasn't so scarred with racial hatred, stuff like this probably wouldn't cause this type of reaction today. There's a reason why it's a sensitive issue. To make light of it only shows that you aren't paying attention to the pain that's been caused (and is still being caused) by racism. It's not just an issue of the past. And the "injustices" are likely not just going to be forgiven. Complain all you want about it. It's part of our society.

Hey! I'm not complaining. I'm laughing at y'all! Your states economy is in the toilet. Youre losing jobs by the thousands. And what is your main complaint? A friggin cartoon! But dont worry! Pretty soon y'all can legally get high. Bob can marry Ben and Susie can marry Sherrie. Then you will forget about a silly cartoon! And guess what? Just because a person gets elected to public office, they dont instantly become a saint. lets hope you never need forgiveness!

As if California is the only state having a tough financial time - or the only state that would take offense to racism... maybe Tennessee still finds racism acceptable these days. It [i]was[/] one of the last states to want to let go of it, wasn't it?

If you haven't learned already, as California goes, so does the nation. Maybe that's why you're hanging out here.

You have a very distorted, media-centric opinion of California. It sounds like you formed your entire opinion based upon 60 and 90 second television news stories, and upon forum posts.

I forgot whites in America have been historically treated like Animals. We should all just get over it right? Why don't we get over the holocaust too. Another insensitive Rush Limbaugh loving angry white man.

No! I come to the California forum from time to time because I spent 30 years of my life out there. I got tired of all the PC crap and came home to aplace where people can believe as thay wish without someone telling them that they should be ashamed of themselves. I came home to aplace where you get a job or get into college because you earned it. Not because you are a minority. I came to a place where you can tell the ladies from the men. To a place where the city wont tell me what color my house can be. I came home to a place where i can be proud of my heritage without worrying about whether or not I'm offending someone. Yea. You know what I mean. That BEAUTIFUL battle flag we like to fly down here. I came home to Tennessee because I like to be around people who are real. Not people who try to be what someone else says they should be. I came home to a place where its still cool to say "yes maam or yes sir." I came home to a place where we can discipline our kids without fear that the PC snobs will call the authorities. I came home to a place where its okay to laugh at a silly cartoon. Hell! Its even okay here to make fun of yourself!
