Well said, thank you.
You know, with all the mandatory "sensitvity and cultural awareness" training that we get here in California, you KNOW that he KNEW better and did it anyway!
Glad he is leaving, as he should.
An elected official or public servant or anyone in a position of power or leadership or representation of others should be held to a higher standard. His/her actions should be above reproach and beyond even the appearance of impropriety.
At least this is what I was taught, and what I believe.

Of course this was inappropriate for a person in his position, but why does it seem like everyone is on a witch hunt lately? What happened to having a sense of humor and not labeling every crack racist or bigoted? Truth be known, we would all get in trouble if our private conversations were taped and broadcast for the world to hear. So why are we so unforgiving of others who just make stupid comments sometimes? A joke about watermelon on the White House lawn is hardly a huge offense. So what if black people are known for liking watermelon?! Oooh watermelon!!! Black comedians rag on white people all the time, and say far worse, and I don't bat a lash.

thank you very much, again, I will say, loosen up guys..Even though I agree he should not have sent it on to anyone, it wasn't that awful. I have seen worse and heard worse. If everyone has to watch everything they say in today's world we are living in a pretty scary climate...

Of course you can! It is a sad day when a white man associates watermelons with blacks, especially a Mayor in this day and age but I received a text message on my phone and instead of a watermelon patch it has the logo of KFC sign and even a drive-thru at the White House.
Capt. Dan you better watch what you say, remember you live in "WHITE"ville ,TN some of those sensitive people of color may deem you as being bigoted!HA! HA!HA!
I really like these people refer to sensitivity and cultural awareness, are they trying to say if we stereotype a black person we "WHITEY" has to go to some sort of re-education camp?
Sounds to me like what the North Vietnameese did to the citizens of South Vietnam in the 1970"s,it's called BRAINWASHING PEOPLES MINDS!!!!!
