The state has its issues. I doubt you can blame one guy for the mess we are in, especially when the majority of the issues were inherited or are part of a bigger problem, mainly the legislature. I was hoping for a more conservative situation but then Arnold is a part of the Kennedy Shriver bunch, so what should we expect? I do like the commercials that Him and Maria and many of the states elite are in.

I don't know that anybody blames Arnold for this mess. Some just question whether he's done what he campaigned to do in his first (and now second) term. He hasn't broken the stalemate, which was his first order of business. The state is not spending responsibly, which was his second order of business. Maybe I have the two swapped, I'm not sure. But regardless, from what I remember, those two things got him elected the first time. What got him elected the second time? Because it wasn't that he achieved his top objectives the first time around.
I think he's a likable guy who voters believe is "trying" to do what needs to be done. Whether or not he can get the job done, well, that's another question. I just think he's let off the hook a little too much with all the blame being put on the legislature - the same legislature that he talked about working with from day one. It's not all his fault. But at the same time, you can't just let him off the hook for the things he promised.

Not going to happen in California, any more than a raging liberal is going to be elected governor of Texas. If you know anything about CA's history, you'd know Arnold is more typical of the CA Republican tradition than fire breathing right wingers are.

I think CA voters need to look in the mirror if they want to spread some of the blame around for all the problems here too. They wanted Prop 13, well they got it and all of its effects, i.e. a budget stream too dependent on volatile income and sales tax revenues. They did not want redistricting reform in the past and barely got it through this time, that is something that should have been done a long time ago. They wanted to tax the rich to pay for more social services. Bond measures for this and that. Voting in the same candidates every election despite complaining about the same politicians constantly. They didn't want a spending cap in the past yet complain about an out of control budget.
Californians have done a great job complaining about everything but still have trouble supporting fundamental changes needed for this state to take a new direction.

I agree. I'm letting Arnold "off the hook" because I don't believe anyone can solve the problem without changing the legislature. As long as you have extremes of left and right no centrist can bring them together. It's combat-style politics - there is no middle ground.
Californians keep re-electing these crazies and approving crazy propositions that we can't afford to pay for. The government is for the people, by the people. The looney lefties and bible thumpers and well-armed rancher survivalists have taken over the state legislature.

I'm still keeping him "on the hook" for blatant betrayal. "Hasta la vista to the car tax" " I,m going to be a gov. of action" "spending-spending-spending" "unfair to punish the people" and so on and so on.

He's doing amazing considering the idiotic democrats wont cut funding for the 24% of California's illegal immigrant population.
Considering only 75% of his states citizens are legal, hes doing really well.
