benjamin is on a distinguished road
within these posts is an interesting answer.
"money is the bottom line" etc.

If you value money and gated communities in sprawled out, polluted cities
more than
art, education, enviroment and 'culture'
...please, please, please move to Texas.

I'm sorry, but what an absurd comment. I'm from San Diego and live in the DFW area, and there is not less art, education, and culture here.
As for natural environment, sure, Cali is more beautiful, I'll give you that.

I don't live in a gated community, in fact our neighborhood reminds my husband and me very much of the neighborhood in Santa Monica he grew up in (minus the beach ). And California certainly has plenty of urban sprawl.

Any other young couples that think being able to afford a modest home is a reasonable (not a greedy, materialistic) goal, y'all come to Texas & welcome to you!

Shhhhhh... Debsi!!!

Those are the exact myths I've spoken of that I hope Texas continues to perpetuate. The fewer people moving there, the better! That way, when we leave Cali after letting some idiot spend a fortune to own our place... there won't be a huge crowd clamoring to buy property in Texas. LOL!!!

You're a day late and a dollar short if you think Texas isn't crowded! Check out the traffic in San Antonio - extremely miserable. In fact, in the San Antonio paper this week there was a two page article on the traffic and congestion in San Antonio. if you think the traffic and crowds in CA are bad, you ought to take a trip over here and see what it's like!

Taken many a trips to Texas... ever since I was 11.

Thankfully, for us, we're not looking to live near a big city. Been there/ done that. Overrated.

Sorry, but nothing really compares to Cali traffic. Ask anyone sitting on the 405 daily.

Fortunately, there's a lot less "idiots" willing to buy overpriced homes such as yours. Thank goodness that everything that goes up must come down; it's physics.

I used to park on the 405 every day. Then I moved to Palm Desert and could take surface streets every day to get to work - so much nicer! Then we moved to Texas like fools! We are moving back to the desert in about 3 weeks. Can't wait to get back home!!!

Dallas has the largest Arts District in the world now being completed with four Pritzker Prize winning architect designed buildings - see: http://www.artsdistrict.org/ and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arts_District,_Dallas

And Southern Methodist University has always been one of the top schools in America...

LOL... The California market can do what it likes and someone will still overpay for our home... simply because it's in California (acerage included; which in So.Cal is rare). If our house were in any other state, it'd sell for what it's really worth. But there will always be someone willing to pay more for a home in a Southern California zip code; get into a 10yr. interest only loan (<--- LOL great money management there) in order to pay for their mortgage... etc., etc., etc., simply because they want the sunshine.

Texas might not be the state for everyone (and we're not even sure it's for us yet either, we haven't made a final decision) but to say that California is the best place... sorry... that argument just can't fly when numbers and money come into play. There are so many other states that give you so much more for your dollar than California ever will. And with them comes space to spread out, nice people, cleaner air, cheaper gas, grocieries, etc.

Again.. .the longer Texas can keep people thinking they're just a bunch of backwards hicks, the better!

I don't think anybody is calling Texans a "bunch of backwards hicks" - just you. Texas isn't better for everyone. It might be better for you. California is better for me. Right now, with the market in CA the way it is, I don't think you're going to have a bunch of idiots paying top dollar for the homes. We are moving back and we are very aware of all the people whose homes are in default. Now is an excellent time to buy in CA because there are bargains to be had.
