I would pick Texas based on my experience. I lived in CA for over 20 years and it has changed. It's over populated, people are ghetto, loud and no class. Women look so plastic from all their surgeries, dressing like sluts, and they are materialistic and on top of it all they would like to be movie stars. Texas women are more natural, classy and polite. I went to Dallas Texas and some other small cities for a few months for a vacation and people were very nice, polite, helpful etc. Everytime I went to a restaurant, they would asked where I am from and I said Ca. and they would give me free food for my first visit. People were so relax and just down to earth. The children were so gracious and very polite.
I saw a lot of houses in Ca. that were expensive but ugly. No matter what the price of houses there, it is not worth it. My husband and I bought a house for almost $600 thousand and we realized it was the wrong decision and we would rather have the money so we walked away from the house. We would never buy a house for that much again, it was a mistake. People are sharing rents in Ca., that is why they can afford it. That is one reason why we left, so many cars parked outside, so many different people living in one house. But inspite of all these I never experienced or witnessed racism in Ca. or Texas, I believe that these 2 states are not ignorant when it comes to different race. I am cacausian and asian.

I would pick Texas over Ca. based on my experience. I lived in Ca. for over 20 years and it has changed a lot for the worse. It's all about material things, expensive things, plastic people, etc. Texas I was there for months for a vacation and people were real, polite, nice and much more. The children were well mannered. I also knew people from Texas who lived in Ca. and would prefer to go back. But one thing that is good about the two states, I never experience or witness racism. These two states are not ignorant when it comes to other race. I am part cacausian and asian.

There are well mannered children in CA too! Also, not everyone is plastic and fake and there are friendly people in CA. You can't just take the whole state and say that there are no good people in it, that's ridiculous!

Moved from Sacramento to Kingwood, Texas (NE Houston) Best move ever. Forested area with good shopping, great dining, friendly people, waterfront community, 100 miles of nature trails. 3100 SF Custom English Tudor for $180k. Combined monthly PITI is $1400. I went from a $2800 mortgage on my 1800 sf ranch in Foothill Farms of Sac. Best move ever.

You must have been on I-45. You can't judge Houston from the freeways. And you must have been in the wrong areas if people were only talking about sports teams and church. You need to get off the freeways, stay out of the 'burbs and instead investigate Montrose, the Museum District, West University, the Heights, Memorial Park area...

Lived in the Philippines Islands, Hawaii, Vegas, and now San Antonio, TX. My family love it here in San Antonio, TX. Cost of living is low, public schools are good www.neisd.net, Sea World, Schilitterbahn, Six Flags, and Austin are within one hour drive from where we live. Texas has the Aloha spirit as well www.alohasanantonio.com . Wife, kids, and I can easily adapt and appreciate what TX and the other places we lived in have to offer.

My families in Vallejo, San Jose, Cypress, Cerritos, Temecula, Oceanside, and Rancho Penasquito San Diego tried to convince me to move there, and I didn't consider. I chose San Antonio, TX instead, and I don't have any families here.

300k is a nice down payment in California. I would definitely move here instead of Texas. Better weather too.

The biggest problem with Texas is the attitude of some of the people. Really hung up on that "Texan" thing. It's a little over the top and most of them are lost outside of Texas. I like the cross section of people in California better. Much more laid back. And they don't have to run around waving a big sign saying "TEXAS!"

King king king...its called pride. People are actually friendly here in Texas. I moved from one Cowtown (Sacramento) to another one (Fort Worth) and I don't think we could have made a better choice.

Not only is it a better way of life in that people actually give a whip "how you are doing today", better education (the taxes actually go to something you can see..local schools - which drive city success), we are building our dream home for half of what we sold our house in Sacramento.

I am happy here in Texas and now most of my family that is still in CA is looking at us going...hmmm...maybe we should move.

For those that think Texas is bad...then it must be, you guys can just stay there
