Default Car Tint

I've been pulled over twice in the same week for having my windows tinted. When the f*** did this become a law in California. Which congressman got this passed? I'm a law abiding guy but this is ridiculous and just an excuse to bleed my pockets dry.

No tint allowed on the front two side window's. It's really stupid being that CA is sunny most of the year and places like Florida etc allow some side tint.

It's been a law for a very long time, probably even decades. What amazes me is that anybody ever gets a ticket for tinted windows. It seems like maybe 20%-25% of all cars in LA have tinted windows. If the police wanted, they could write tickets until Hell freezes over without even getting back into their squad car between busts.

I think there are too many cars with windows tinted too darkly, but that's just my personal opinion. (And it's the law too, but who follows the laws these days?)

You can only have 70% on the front two windows but the back windows can be painted black if you like. Don't go below 35% and don't do other things to attract attention and you generally won't have a problem.

I got a ticket for having 70% on my last car. Cop said nothing can be on the front two window's. 70% is so light you can barely even see it, but it does help with heat in the summer. I don't even know how the cop noticed it.

Maybe you live in a city with its own tint law. Everything I've ever read on the subject says that state law sets it at 70% for the front two windows.

The tint law is set by the State, it just depends on how big a jerk the cop is.

Now I'm nervous. I have to drive my older car out still from Ohio and it's 87% tinted. lol I've been pulled over for it once in Ohio but I was very respectful with the police officer and he let me off with a warning. I, however, have neglected to adhere to the warning and still drive with my windows near-black.

I suppose I'll wait and see if my car makes the entire trip and if so, I'll take it off.

Near black might be a problem but I've never had trouble at 35%, knock on wood.
