commute to Hanford, CA
We have a great job offer in Hanford, Ca. I'm not sure about living in the town itself. How is the commute from Visalia or other desirable communities? We dont want more than 20 minutes. Thanks!

You'd best be choosing Hanford then. When the fog season arrives driving around the block can be a 30 minutes drive!

I liked Hanford. Visalia is about 20 minute commute, Lemoore is 9 miles but it's much smaller than Hanford. The fog does get bad at times but it isn't nearly as bad as it used to be, or at least the fog season seems much shorter in the past 10 years, IMO. My husband used to commute to southern Fresno area, it took him about 35 munutes, that's also how long it took to get to the airport in Fresno. Depending how old you are or if you have kids I rather enjoyed living in Hanford. If you are single and in your twenties you will probably get bored.

Like I said before, depends on your age and stage of life. I lived there the past 10 years while my children were in school. I met alot of great people through all kinds of activities. Sports, school, gym, charity groups etc..., there are all kinds of things to do, just not alot if you are a young, single adult wanting night life. There is a worse side of town like every other town, but I loved living there, even though I hated it for the first year. There are alot of people who have lived there all their lives and their parents etc... so it takes a little while to get in the groove. There are also quite a few Navy pilot people, who come and go but are great friends and neighbors. Many of them actually come back to Hanford when they are out of the service to live and raise families. Most of these people have lived all over the place and choose to come back so something must be good there.

Thanks for all the great input! We are "empty nesters" and I kind of liked the slower paced lifestyle that I saw there. We would also be within 2 1/2 hr drive away from our grown kids. Seemed like there were a lot of churches to choose from to get involved in... which would make it easier to form friendships in the area. Thanks again.
