No, not really. If you hate a place, why keep coming into the forum for that place and b*tching about it? Unless you have no life and derive some perverted pleasure from your misery.

Reality is one thing. Complete hatred and negativity is quite another - and usually leads to exaggeration of how "bad" it is here.

Exactly. I agree completely. I think there are traits of obsessive-compulsive mental disorder going on with a few of these people who whine on City Data day in and day out, 365 days a year, repeating the same things over and over and over and over again and have been doing so literallly for several years now.

I know more than a few people that fall into that category.

Agree. Makes me think the "love or leave it crowd" have never even lived in those "crappy midwestern or southern states"

You know what else I love? When a native Californian moves to one of those "crappy midwestern or southern states" and they are automatically branded a racist redneck!! LMAO!!

Default It has to do with the movie industry and the weather

Its that simple: many people move here because they are so fascinated with the movie industry, because they have hopes of making it big as an actor/actress and many of them don't make it.

Also, the sunny weather is one major reason why people stay here and some others move out here, although there are others like myself who didn't come here by choice. The constant, dry sunny weather here in CA is so relentless and lasts much too long, especially in LA.

And the person who started this thread is so right: there ARE lots of mean and rude people in CA. Many of them are uneducated also. CA has one of the nation's worst education systems. Just take a look on Statemaster and see for yourself. There are WAY too many bad drivers who will cut you off here in CA.

California is behind when it comes to several categories and I don't think it is as good as many people make it out to be, although there are positives here as well. Every place has its pros and cons, so you have to find out for yourself what you can and can't tolerate.

Well, I was born and raised in the San Joaquin Valley, which is nothing like the CA people see on TV. People should know before they move there, that it isn't all sunshine and beaches. I hate even telling people I'm from CA because I know they'll get completely the wrong picture in their head of how I grew up.

The gigantic population and poorly-run state government are certainly two, if not the biggest, negatives. Misconception of the state from films is another, but that varies on how much people buy into what they see in the media.

See, the one thing that Arizona beats California (well, SoCal) in is Mexican food IMHO. I like the Mexican food in LA, but its a lot milder with more emphasis on seafood (since most immigrants are from the Baja area). I prefer the spicier Sonoran-type Mexican food.
