There are some areas in Cali where your money house purchase wise goes a bit further. Places in San Diego County like Valley Center wherein you can right now get a 3400sqft house on .473 acre, in a gated community for under 650k. In comparision to the same size home in a similar setting in central San Diego is over a million.
You just have to know where to look.

Do you have health insurance and auto insurance?
What is your rent or mortgage payment (if you have a mortgage)?
How much annually do you contribute to an IRA or 401(k)?
How much annually do you contribute to college savings for your three kids?

I'd love to know how your getting 35k a year being 16 or 18 or however old you said. i am working hourly at $8 an hour and barley getting by. do you know how i could do better? I want to go to an arts school in la where i could possibly be getting a scholorship which would help and not need a car. Besides the cost of the school, I would be needing backup cost for rent, groceries, and transportation, and other things. That can really add up. I wonder if my plans or desires are realistic. Any help advice from any readers is very much appreciated. I live in nebraska, so this is quite a leap.

I know this isn't what you want to hear but if you're barely making it in NE on $8.00 an hour you will decidedly NOT make it in CA on similar wages. My advice would be to finish school in a desired/needed subject-matter area that will easily translate in to a reasonable income, make your move and once settled, pursue your art school options.

Delayed gratification is not necessarily a bad thing.

Good luck!

I'm glad for any advice, so thanks. My question is, I know pleanty of people don't go to college, and I am not planning on getting a real graduate required job any time soon. I know that california cost of living is higher, and thats great and all, I just don't know how to make a living in california. I'd like any advice on that subject. Be great. Thanks.
