San Luis Obispo is waaaaay out of your price range. Go to slowatch.com. Average home prices in SLO are $615,000. Buying a small condo in Santa Maria is $121,000 according to that website, but that would be just about the only thing in your budget. Living in SLO county is really expensive.

Crescent City, Ca is nice
Hi, I just moved from Crescent City, CA back to my hometown of Hoopa, CA after my son graduated from Del Norte High School in 2006. I stayed until early 2008 before I relocated back to my hometown and I put my house on the market. It was originally priced at 219k and it was listed just when the prices were falling. I have not been able to sell my house because the market is so flooded and I really need to sell it because I am tired of paying on the mortgage.
Crescent City is at the Oregon Border and is Northern California. Most people refer to San Francisco as Northern California but this is truly northern. The schools are great, the community is wonderful and the weather is great, not too hot and not too cold. The climate up here is beautiful and is home to the worlds largest Lily fields/farming in the country and is listed as that.
My house is a 3/1 with the bathroom being recently completely remodeled, it sits on a small parcel and has a garage attached. My house is approximately 3-4 blocks from the pacific ocean depending on which route you take to get there. I beleive that my home would be a steal for anyone looking to invest in property on the California coast. I thought that outsiders would be interested in looking for that reason but again there are a lot of foreclosures on the market and that seems to be brining the prices down.
I would recommend Crescent City to anyone truly looking for a great community, beautiful sceenery, great schools, etc. Let me know if you have any qeustions as I did live here for 8 years and I know the area pretty well.

Who are you asking to look in San Louis Obispo? Certainly not your realtor.....
As for out of state tuition, yes, when you re-locate you will need to be a resident of the state for 1 year or pay out of state tuition which is very expensive..

A Chance Where?
Hi, what are you referring to? If you are refering to Crescent City, CA I would definitely say you have a chance. The prices are falling and the market here is flooded. Great community if you have a family. I work for the tribal police department in Klamath adjacent to Crescent City and I am sorry I had to leave here. But, I am now commuting two hours per day one way to and from work.

Nita, I havent asked my realtor, a person here said of a place which was in SLO, and I wanted to confirm if it was possible. Which, now, I have been told, isn't possible.
Patti, I will ask my realtor about that, its in CA right?

"Screw Fontana and that area. See if you can get house in Paso Robles for that. SLO County is where you want to live. You MIGHT be able to find something in Paso Robles."
Quoted by a member in a previous post. I wanted to know if there's the slightest chance, before I ask my realtor.

Please list your *other* requirements so ppl can better answer your questions.
For example if you are still in school do you plan on continuing? If so do they have the type of school you will need to attend anywhere near Crecent City?
I have visited the town and it does have it charms. For a person a tight budget it would be a decent place to live with beautiful scenery. The thing is we all have different standards. But I know I would much rather live in Crescent City than Fontana.
You live in places like Fontana because it is cheap and close to LA. When in LA you access to great universities and other things. But of course there are negatives as already mentioned.
Anywhere near San Luis Obispo would be much better than LA in terms of environment. I don't know if you can find a place for that little. But who knows.
An alternative would be to rent near where you will be going to school, then buy once you graduate. Try to write your goals out and prioritize them. Then think of achieving them in stages. Maybe finish school is first or???
Crescent City, while nice, has a pretty depressed economy - more than most in California. It is a very small town with not much industry to speak of. You can work at the prison and few other places. But it is much nicer than Fontana. Here is a recent shot:
