California Unemployment 10.5% in February
The state released the February numbers unemployment rate for California and it rose again to 10.5%.
That is up from 10.1% in January 2009. But the February 2008 was only 6.2%.
http://www.edd.ca.gov/About_EDD/pdf/urate200903.pdf
Rates for individual counties in February vary from the two lowest of 6.8% in Marin County and 7.6% in San Mateo County to the two highest of 26.6% in Colusa County and 24.5% in Imperial County.
But people should look at the rates for individual cities at the link below since the rates can vary widely in a single county.

Interesting... a small town in my area has 500 population, with all 500 people being accounted for as employed, yet the unemployment rate is 4.8%.
I know there's a margin of error etc etc but it's still kinda funny

Those are really some sobering numbers. I can really see evidence of how serious this is here in So. Cal, in that the L.A. Times, which usually has a massive classifieds / jobs section, is down to just one piece of paper, folded over once -- so four sides. And some of that space is articles about job searching. That was perhaps the most chilling sign to me, given that I've grown up with the L.A. Times my whole life, and never have I seen the classified job section that small.

To be fair, most job advertisements have moved online to places like Jobing.com, CareerBuilder, Monster and Yahoo Jobs. Still, the job listings on all four sites are scarce.
What was the percentage change from November/December 2008 to January 2009?

Do you realize his post had nothing at all to do with Obama or politics?

You'll find it easier to just ignore idiots. I have no idea what Obama has to do with the 10% unemployment rate.
In any case, California was one of the largest culprits re: this sub-prime meltdown mess.

Interesting, I am planning on moving to the north bay though and have already looked at jobs... looks MUCH better than where I'm at right now in Florida where I couldn't even get a job at a grocery store if I wanted to and there is pretty much no tech/industry whatsoever. All big box stores, chain restaurants and government! The comparable housing is actually cheaper there too!

Yeah, but there's typically hundreds (sometimes thousands) of applicants for every job opening found online since the economy is in shambles.
