Hey, Nita, you have your head on straight. Imagine, calling Sarah Palin a Wacko; utter nonsense. Now, Nasty Pelosi, that's a Wacko, Grade A, if I ever used the term, that is. Actually, it's kindergarten time to pick on Palin. The libs have managed to get her defeated in the election, even with her executive experience. I know, I know, the politically correct thing is to say: now, now, children, let's sit in a circle and play nicey-face, patty-cake. Everybody has the first amendment protection to call anybody any thing, according to today's wacko standards. Keep up the good work, Nita. Ye shall pevail!

Texas and California do not differ greatly in per capital GDP. California by the way is ranked around 10th.
As can be expected much of what you said is wrong. Texas has the same sort of employee protections, medical coverage and standard of living (wages by themselves mean nothing, its how they relate to costs that matter).
Texas does have less unions though. Feel good that your tax dollars going to to funnel money to California unions and over paid state workers. Let me guess you work for the state....err...at least for now?

No it does not.
Perhaps, if stopped letting your ideology control your thinking things would become a bit more clear.

California is the 7th or 8th largest economy in the WORLD [where does Texas rank?]. Anytime a political discussion occurs those that are Republican complain about the governor [even though he's a Republican] & the elected officials. Republicans don't do well in California & yet see no correlation between voting and government. It's simple: if who you vote for never wins if may have something to do with YOU and not California! [like a beauty contest, if you are ugly you probably won't win ]. We don't agree with Republican thinking in California & that is why they continue to shrink [but that is happening all over the nation].

Why waste our time on the obvious.

How many people from California post in the Texas forums to tell us how backward Texans are? None that I have seen, people from California are posting in the Texas forums to ask about moving to the state.
Intruding on California related topics? This isn't some kind of government or official website, it is a forum design for people to inform on particular places, people can post in whatever forums they wish to. Judging on how seriously you take the idea of people only being allowed to post on forums that are about the areas in which they live, I think you might need to spend some time away from the forum and in the real world.

15th. But this is irrelevant. California has a larger population so of course its GDP is going to be higher. You need to look at GDP per capita.

You are right many California's don't agree with "Republican thinking" and that is why the problems in the state won't be solved until the people demand change.
I mean seriously, aren't you a little bit curious how Texas manages to have no budget deficit while California is going bankrupt? This does not make you think that perhaps fiscally California is not on the right path? The problems in California have just started, public layoffs and cutbacks are just starting.
You seem to be rather liberal and think that all Republicans are religious conservatives and therefore reject anything that is at all associated with the Republican party. You are throwing out the baby with the bath water. Its going to take a lot to wake up Californians. It probably does not help that your pay check comes from milking the tax payers dry.

As someone who sells a lot of real estate in DFW, a large part of my business is Californians coming here to buy homes. Our housing market is strong, prices were up 2% in February and our budget is balanced.
And we execute our death row inmates. I've been curious why CA keeps sending bad guys to Death Row with out the state doing the deed, but that's another thread.
Oh yeah, TX passed CA & NY a few years ago in Fortune 500 companies headquartered in the state. Must be the no state income tax or our cheap and available gasoline.

What do you know about my "paycheck?" And if you think that Republicans have the answer to California's problem than you haven't been paying attention to the political situation for the last few decades.
But getting back to the subject: The next governor will not be a Republican due to the fact that Republicans have screwed over the nation under your great Texas president [or have you forgotten the past 8 years?]. In-fact the state assembly is shy of 2 Democrats to totally ignore the few Republicans left for budget decisions [the only thing Republicans have any leverage over; otherwise they have no say on anything in Sacramento
And why don't you stay focused on Pittsburgh where you live instead of being upset with our life in California?

Just to note that although Texas has no income tax it does have a business tax ("franchise tax"). It is essentially 0~1% of gross profit depending on the nature of your business and revenue. Most small businesses don't have to pay a thing though.
California has a 8.8% flat corporate tax! Gee, I wonder why businesses are leaving. Better tax them more to make sure they stay! California is a joke.

You are again pretending that all republicans are built from the same mold. They are not nor are democrats. Politics is way to complex to fit into two parties. What California needs is healthy dose of fiscal conservatism. And in case you were not aware, Bush and friends are not fiscal conservatives. They ran deficits worst than most democrats.

Firstly, I'm not in Texas. Secondly, yes a Republican is unlikely to be elected.

Haha, and you think this is a good thing. Funny. Anyhow, it is because of this that I'm starting to get my bags packed. I'm not going to get taxed into oblivion to pay for Californians stupidity. California was a great place back when it was run conservatively, but that is over. Even if it gets fixed, its going to be a long time. Its going to take awhile to bring the liberal interests to their knees. Too many people make money off the status quo to change it quickly.

First I'm in Texas, next I'm in Pittsburgh. I'm a 3rd generation Californian. What about you? Let me guess were not born here? Don't tell me I what to focus on, my family has been in California for a long time and I have a lot of family in California. I'm also currently in the state.
