Not difficult for me, having lived in Japan, China and Korea, but the cities you cited have their own, unique energies. There is no direct stateside correlation.

Quite frankly it sounds to me as if you're not really sure what you want. You may be better served just staying in place for awhile.

Well then I'm thinking San Fransisco metro or within that region. Liberal with big city amenities and wide diversity.

You should probably go and visit places to check them out.

Frisco (San Francisco) is your place then.

The main town of San Pedro is rather run down with a lot of crime and other issues. There are some nice burbs higher up the hill or around the corner on the border with Palos Verdes. But I don't think it is the kind of place you are looking for.

For a young adult check out the beach communities of Hermosa, Manhattan, Torrance Beaches in LA County. Anytime you go inland in LA to places like Pasadena you get alot more smog, heat, traffic, etc... Right now for example Pasadena is 94 while Hermosa Beach is 69.

There are many young ppl who don't surf that enjoy the beaches of SoCal. I grew up there and surfed a lot. But I had many friends who didn't surf including natives. Basically if you enjoy the outdoors there is much to do.

My 2c,

Derek

Downtown Long Beach is a fun place to live, lots of public transportation available, right near the coast so much cooler temps in the summer and lots of places to hang out after dark .
