I've called and e-mailed my elected officials... For the most part... I don't think they care one way or the other... many are not accepting e-mail... mailbox full
I can't help but wonder if things would be different today if we had Tom McClintock instead of Arnold Tom made a very good showing against Arnold...

As an update, California has agreed to reduce the payments further, to $850 a month, and Arnold has submitted a proposal to reduce it to $830.
This means that California would reduce their SSI monthly contributions from $233 per month this past year, to $156, a reduction of 33%, to the disabled folks of our state. In addition, he has eliminated all dental care beginning this July.
Just a disgrace.

And in many countries a person would get nothing...
We should all be thankful for what we receive without doing physical labor to get it.. whatever the reason..
During pension cuts I try to look at it from all angles... I accept it.. as long as we don't single out one class and we ALL are in it...

Because that is the way of the world these days rather than have any compassion whatsoever! Has it ever occured to you that we practically "are" starving to death already, getting no food stamps, and getting only $870.00 a month to pay for rent, utilities, food, Dr.s, med's, and all of the other necessities of life? Or the fact that we have "bridges to nowhere" that cost taxpayers millions yet at the same time want to cut from the absolutely American, poor and disabled, possibly with not even much time to live?
Oh sure, "that's so intelligent of all of you! Take from the poor and already barely making it????? I'm actually in shock by some of the remarks I've read here but at the same time it sure doesn't surprise me and do ya know why? Because this last 6 months I've really had a chance to see for the 1st time in my life, "just how greedy folks of affluence and money are!!!" There ought to be a law against it!
So as you all, and you know who you are, sit back in your 3500 sq. foot homes, that's been paid off for years, as well as your 3 cars and of course buffered with your $-hundreds of thousands of dollars in good investments, 2 great income family's comfort, you just go right ahead and love watching me sit here and read all of your "nonsense" about how "even the SSI, disadvantaged and po'ww
folks need to pay their fair share, live on less...LOL..and buy even less food while turning down your heat in the winter, just remember that a whole lot of us have been good tax payers for decades already, are good and honest people THAT DO HAVE AT LEAST THE SSI COMING, maybe at the same time you can be honest with yourselves about just how tight, greedy and ridicoulous your truly being! Ring a bell, Curmudgeon? J f R

We are far from rich but I do agree with Curmudgeon. When a country runs out of money where do you propose we continue to drill for more? When the rich are broke, or the state is broke, we all feel the pain and we will all tighten our belts. Voting in administrations that will tax the rich bankrupt or a business that may provide some jobs will not solve this mess.

Still we are able between small investments, and a few other things plus we happen to both supliment our income by working VERY part time. Our mistakes are ours, we do not blame anyone else, we would never try to survive in ca on $900. Because we are careful, we have done some things right and we live within our means we are even able to travel, but we do have to watch the pennies.
When people want to blame everyone else for their mistakes I get a little hot under the collar...

I am surprised too how anyone could live in California on $900/ month! I notice you live in Arkansas and i suspect that it might difficult to live there on that amount.
Because of the State of the State, is the reason we see all of the "I am Leaving Cali" threads.
And, it seems to be getting worse every month!

You can't. There are a lot of people on SSI that live in motels or rent rooms because its not enough to rent an apartment, and even with the cost of room rentals (running abt 700 a month when I was) that doesn't leave much for anything else.
The problem with SSI (as adversed to retirement) is that working even part time, to make the money to fill in, can risk being approved the next review, especially when someone is looking for a reason to drop people. We have NO way of insuring those with pre-existing conditions and without state insurence (as poor as it is in many ways) there would be none for those who must have it. Because someone on SSI can work part time does NOT mean they can work enough to support themselves, but that is the risk being run.
Rather than being something people with health situations are rushiing to get, most people I know see it as the last refuge, since it precludes so much else and discourages trying to go forth.
In states with a much lower cost of living its a lot easier, but the limitations to doing better still exist.

I am not sure it will do any good. I write and email our "public servants" quite a bit and all I ever get is a canned response from a low level drone. They will do what thye want to do and the only power we have is the ballot box but unfortunately the same people get reelected time after time. Kind of like "Groundhog Day"!
