We live at the foot of the Ozarks, there is so much good about living here. Of course it isn't for everyone, but it is for us...Again, this is not meant to knock California, I just feel some people know little about other places and assume nothing is as good as California...I suppose this can be said about lots of places, still many in Ca as well as Texas seem to be oblivious to their state having any problems...

We absolutely LOVED it there! I was really pushing my husband to leave Ca, and I started researching areas to move to, smaller town to raise the kids in the country, big spaces! He's got family in central Mo so I started researching there and loved everything I read. He was offered a job in Springfield so we jumped at the opportunity and haven't looked back. Have since moved to Georgia and now Virginia...each place has had something special to offer and it's fun exploring all these new areas and seeing the history that we learned in the history books! To walk where Civil War and Rev War battles took place is amazing!

ok Happ, whatever....jealous? Oh my gosh, that is crazy. I could have stayed if I wanted to, why would I be jealous? Oh so many reasons not to be jealous...lets see, in Ca I have a postage stamp yard, in Virginia I live in a big old farmhouse built in 1860 on 10 acres...in Ca, issues that I can't go into without getting in trouble and you know what that means, in Va, not a problem...in Ca, rush, rush, rush to keep up with the Joneses, in Va, laid back, high school football games, sitting on the porch, catching lightning bugs in the summer, friendly people who stop and talk with you at the grocery store like you are their long lost friend, people helping people, communities that care about it's inhabitants, lovely country roads, the American history that built our country all around....hmmm, jealous? I don't think so...but you do have better Mexican food.
I never dogged Ca, just like it better from my childhood and most natives would probably agree...you just always seem to have issues with people who want to leave and can be happier in another state. I think you might be jealous that people can actually escape

Well, Happ, when I cease to be a Californian except for accident of birth, thanks to the military, I'll try hard to keep my envy under control and not let it ruin the rest of my life in God's country. You see, enjoying the South is easy. I've lived in AL, twice in NC, twice in VA, KY, GA and TX and thoroughly enjoyed all of them but TX. I love the culture, the scenery, the pace of life, the hospitality and the fact that everything doesn't have to be printed in a dozen languages. That's the America I always loved.
Oh, and by the way, MO is considered mid-western, with some southern undertones.

Breeze, as you can read above, I've lived almost everywhere you mentioned, sometimes more than once, and MO is our next stop. What I truly enjoy about points east and south are the senses of history and tradition that prevail, along with the architecture and the nurturing and honoring of historical sites. Add the people and sense of community and it's a win all the way around.

One question: how many Californians post on the Georgia forum to point out how much happier they are in California? Why do you post here? I suspect you have "issues" that better represent who you are living in the South [ie Bible-Belt bigotry].

"Bible Belt Bigotry"? I'll leave that one alone. To answer your question as to how many Californian's post on the Ga board, I wouldn't know because I don't post on the Ga board. I don't live there now. My husbands job has relocated us to Virginia, if you read my post, you would maybe figure out that VA=Virginia....
Why do I post here? Because this is my FIRST home. This is where I spent the first 34 years of my life so I feel a connection to it still. I hate to see what Ca is becoming. I still have much of my family there, my parents are still there, both sets of Grandparents are buried there. Best friends that I have known since kindergarten still live there. A part of me will always remain a Californian but the other part of me is happy to be a free American and explore the rest of our great country...not that I need to explain myself to you.

california is more developed and overpopulated...so further regulations are needed to prevent chaos. the same thing will happen here sooner or later. maybe not in the country, but definitely in nashville and the surrounding burbs.
OT- i don't see a reason to compare Cali to other states..to me it's like its own country, it's where i'm from and my family is there, so yea i prefer it to a lot of places...definitely my favorite state overall..tho i'd prefer to live in Norway or the Netherlands in an ideal world.

It all comes down to "sour grapes" how often do to tell your family how sad you are that they still live in California? When some people move away they immediately realize how much they have lost by leaving California [esp if they move to the Midwest or South]. Misery loves company. So stay away. We wouldn't want you to suffer by returning to California.
