Anyone who tries repeatedly to put down and belittle not just other places but people with opinions that don't match his own must have a real need to continue convincing himself that his is best The thing is, if it was true it wouldn't have to be pointed out all the time nor other places made to look worse by comparison.
With apologies to Wm. Shakespeare, methinks he dost protest too much.

OT- i don't see a reason to compare Cali to other states..to me it's like its own country, it's where i'm from and my family is there, so yea i prefer it to a lot of places...definitely my favorite state overall..tho i'd prefer to live in Norway or the Netherlands in an ideal world.

I would hardly say Ca is it's own country, if you want to say that, you can say almost evey state is its own country..Why? because each state is different is some way...Many things that have happened to Ca in the past 30 years, good and bad, will not, necessarily happen in other states. Ca has created its own nightmare.

With California is so large, and running so far North to South, with the pacific along its entire western border, it really is hard for any other state to compare to it. I live in Florida, about the next closest, with no mountains and deserts, as beautiful as my state is, there really is no comparison to California. I have also lived all over the rest of the country, from New England, and the Midwest, as well as Utah and Colorado, really California tops them all.

I don't have to [I live in California, not the South - that's where you live]. I also don't post on whatever Southern state forum you live in to tell how miserable you must be

No, actually Alaska is primarily mountains\ shoreline\ tundra. But Alaska does not have deserts & temperature differences anywhere close to California [ie Bodie at 8400' can easily be below freezing while El Centro at -45' can be above 100F]. There is warmth in Alaska [ie Fairbanks] during the very short summer but mostly Alaska is quite cold. In-fact the weather in Bodie would be comparable to coastal Alaska.
There truly isn't anywhere in our nation that has so much physical diversity as California [volcano\ alpine\ coast\ Mt Whitney 14,500 less than 50 miles from Death Valley at -282'\ hottest temp in nation\ sub-tropical South Coast\ Yosemite\ Lake Tahoe\ San Francisco bay\ redwoods\ largest trees in nation\ oldest trees in nation\ largest agriculture region in nation\ best wines\ finest avocados. That's just a fraction of the land mass diversity & doesn't include the culture which is another long paragraph.
California is incredible & those who claim otherwise are blind & bitter.

The South can be a nice place to visit - it certainly has a fascinating history and has its attractions - but I wouldn't want to live there.
I sense most of the Californians who move to the South have Southern roots and heritage, even if a couple generations back. It really is a different world down there. I don't think most of them necessarily share traditional Southern prejudices as much as they have some familiarity with the culture. And you really need to know the culture in order to live there.
For me, two generations back in my family would be the Midwest - specifically Cleveland and Chicago. I don't have any desire to move to Cleveland (although it would be INCREDIBLY cheap compared to California) and given that the Midwest is still sending more people to California than recieving Californians - unique amongst US regions - it doesn't seem like too many other Californians want to go there. Chicago, OTOH, would offer more urban amenities, but it's not a place I'm familiar with like CA and it is a place with a strong native sense of pride/place.

Seriously, what are you, like 14? Nobody said Ca isn't incredible, it is, it's just that there is a big world out there that is just as incredible in different ways. Wouldn't the US suck if the rest of it was a barren desert of nothingness? People do leave California, not because they think Ca is ugly, but for a change of pace and to see new things, and if they leave and are happy, it happens, although I'm not going to argue that some do come back, just not everyone....sheesh, open your mind a little..
