I've always stayed in Palm Desert. Little more laid back.

It depends on what your criteria is, how much money you have to spend, what your preferences are, etc. We need more info to be able to give you a fully informed answer.

You can find what you're looking for in that price range, pretty much anywhere in the valley. Palm Springs is pretty happening, but has a large gay population, not sure if that is a concern or not. Personally, I prefer Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, La Quinta, or Indian Wells. Palm Springs, Palm Desert and La Quinta are going to be more "happening" for a young person.

Are there some really good deals around the 'happening' areas for a single-family home (what is the price range for Alexander, Wexler and similar homes these days)?
