Cali to Colorado (Thousand Oaks, Santa Barbara, Moorpark: rent, homes, employment)

Why do so many Californians move to Colorado?

There is so much to love in California ( Prices not included) the Ocean the mountians the vineyards the hills ect...

I just dont understand it. I am desperately thinking about moving to California and I am not getting the reason why so many moves are made from Cali to Colorado.

If you could explain this phenomonon I would greatly appreciate.

Lived in the San Fernando Valley, Moorpark, Santa Barbara (UCSB for college) & Thousand Oaks for 45 years. Here are a few of my reasons for moving to near Monument, CO:

Less expensive housing market.
An order of magnitude less traffic.
Ability to live within reasonable commuting distance between two major employment centers (e.g., live in between Denver & Colorado Springs or in between Denver & Boulder, probably other combinations too).
Aerospace jobs building up in Denver and Colorado Springs.
Very sunny most of the time.
Four seasons and not uncomfortably cold winters - even this past winter.
Not as hot as inland California.
Ninety percent of the amenities and 10% of the negatives.
Beautiful scenery.
Many excellent government (aka public) school districts.
Altitude gives you a seven beer buzz for the price of a sixer.

We are making the move to the Springs area because of the same reasons listed above. Also, it is very family friendly. Close enough to all the friends and family we are leaving in California and still fun to visit for them. We are not in the boonies!

I am curious if you have worked with the GMD team at Vandenberg AFB?

I am actually looking at a possiable transfer to that location for the GMD projects there. I also have the choice of Co. Springs and washington as well as arizona. I would prefer to be by the ocean and as you and others have said the area there by the base is just amazing.

I am also thinking of cost however. I am an engineer so I will make a good salary..but even so I am not certain of the choice to make.
Any insights to that area in Cali. and the GMD projects lasting there...

California has engineering jobs but it is expensive. Same for DC (but many of those jobs are being BRACd to HSV). HSV is cheap (for now) has lots of jobs and, with the exception of the hot summers, is very desireable. Good schools, lots of jobs, inexpensive homes. Kind of like the COS of the south. It would be my second choice. Arizona, too hot, no way. VAFB beautiful but probably not cheap (I checked a few years ago and it wasn't much cheaper than Ventura County). Sounds like you have a good job with good bucks. Why not rent for a while in a place that has both jobs and good comments (like COS) and see what Boeing can do for you?
