I think that people who are living elsewhere see the California we would all like to see... the weather,, the glitz,, the beaches,, the beautiful redwoods.. wow it all looks so awesome
and then you come here
and find.. cities overburdened by illegals and crime and traffic and pollution
outlying areas that ARE affordable have already been filled up by low lifes and meth heads.. and a couple of yuppies driving up prices.. and while I make huge generalizations here we all know what Im talking about
The ONLY THING that I see in California that makes living here great is MONEY to insulate yourself from the masses
Now.. are there still some rural places in California,, sure.. but 80k wont buy much.. maybe a mobile in a park somewhere...and 80k in the city gets you a house in the ghetto.. dont be fooled by the San Diego addresses.. when you google it carefully and then run the area you will see that you WOULD NOT in any fashion want to raise a family there.. bars on your windows, gangbangers, gunshots, and illegals and those stuck in poverty for neighbors
Look at Redding.. great home prices right now.. it might fit many of your parameters
I wish you best of luck

Where are you moving?
Hi Sarah,
I am glad you were able to find somewhere that is suitable, but out of curiosity would you please share where?
I know some of the posts seemed rude; however, people were trying to be helpful. California is a very expensive state to live and the State is a mess financially. Higher taxes are on the horizon with Gov. Arnie trying to balance the budget. Living here is very STRESSFUL right now and I think that is why people answered in the manner they did.
I hope you will come back and post what area of the state you found that meets your needs. Best of luck to you!

No one wanted to dump on you, but facts are facts. I think Sammy is right, you need to let us know where you bought a house for even twice the $80,000 and got a job without even re-locating? I do hope you lose the chip on your shoulder when you get to California. You have to realize what you said you wanted is almost impossible to find many places, especially in California and many were only trying to tell you, be careful.
As for asthma, there is no guarantee it will be better in Calif. Our son is a severe asmatic, especially when he was young. He had to leave Ca for see any improvement because of so much he was alergic to could be found in California. I hope you have better luck, but areas like Tuscon usually are recommended for people with Asthma not California.
Like Sammy, I want to wish you good luck. I hope you are happy with your new home and find everything you are looking for in Calfiornia.

Needs to have a lot of job opportunities, or at least ver close to a city that does.
We are eventually going to start a photo gallery/photography studio where we move, or very close by.
Any suggestions?
