c.a., as a junior member I would encourage you to ask more specific questions. It will help ppl who know either area try and answer some of them. Your Q is too vague. It could be answered in 100s of ways and be of little use to you depending on what you are looking for.

For example where are you coming from? Why do you think these two towns would be a good fit? What are you looking for? Likes, Dislikes, requirements, etc...

Mariposa is pretty but definitely relies alot on Yosemite tourism as their source of economy.. Jamestown is a nice mining town too. If you are looking for a town that's a little bigger, maybe Sonora?
