To the OP...As others have said, a change of environment is most certainly only a partial fix for you.

In recent years, there has been a fair amount of research done on what actually makes people happy. It turns out the city where you live only has a small effect for most. There are several good and readable self help books on the market that can help with this:

1. The How of Happiness by Sonja Lyubomirsky
2. Happier by Tal Ben Shahar

Some of the findings these books mention: regular exercise, regular church attendance and/or regular prayer/meditation, amongst many other things can help a person attain a sense of well being, sometimes eliminating the need for drugs like antidepressants. The How of Happiness has a specific chapter on depression that might be of interest to you.

It turns out that happy people do indeed have a set of habits that generally makes them happy no matter where they are. The good news is that it's only partly genetic. You can learn the habits for yourself.

hey dude sorry your going through, reminds me of my time in dallas( worst place in texas). leave california come to the south, houston to be exact its cheaper and you cant go wrong with some southern hospitality.
