I was raised in Morgan Hill which doesn't smell much better, at least around 101/Dunne.. or over by the mushroom grower on Hale. Smelled it every day going into SJSU on the 68 bus and still never could get used to it. That Stockton smell is much more industrial.

Hard to say, each has it's pros and cons: I think, it I had to pick one, overall I would pick L.A. and I didn't think I would ever say that. Again, it depends on how you define "big City" maybe Long Beach would be up there. Stockton and Fresno are not exactly the cream of the crop, nor is San Jose.

Stockton, easily.
At least Oakland has cultural positives that make up for it being the most dangerous city in CA, not to mention that SF is just across the bay. Stockton has no positives whatsoever.

That is a bit of an understatement. Stockton rates low by almost any measure and Fresno isn't that far behind. I don't see any pros for either.

Fresno has In and Out and a really cheap but livable "Best Western" right off the freeway...LOL
