Clearlake,CA : Great place to visit , wouldn't want to live there
The opposite of Santa Cruz,CA: Great place to live, sucks to visit

Most of Lake county is really a naturally beautiful area, very relaxing, tons of nature activities, great scenery, open spaces BUT it is economically depressed beyond the point of hope

Actually, there was some recent news that some wineries are seriously looking at moving into the area.

Santa Cruz is great to visit! I'm a huge fan!

Tahoe is bigger than Clearlake, and is a natural lake.

The main drawback re: Clearlake for me is the summer heat.

2 1/2 years from the last post, what is the latest for the Clear Lake area? Back in the late 70's I used to camp and fly my hang glider north of the lake and drove hwy 20 coming in from the Sacramento area. Now I'm at retirement age and seems this is the only lake in California I'm able to afford lakefront property. I still fly, but not hang gliders and Clear Lake is one of the few California lakes with no restrictions for seaplane use, how perfect and full circle for me.

Also take a look at Hidden Valley Lake, just to the south. That lake doesn't have algae or mercury pollution.

Right on the 1 1/2 years and Hidden Valley Lake is quite nice but doesn't allow seaplanes.
