I left San Diego primarly because the illegals turned my once quite little middle-class neighborhood into a 3rd-world slum.

No city is perfect, but for me, anywhere where the illegals aren't has to be better.

The discussion would be more interesting if you mentioned some of them instead of blaming liberals. It makes you sound kooky.

Last year, the end of this month, we bought the house I'm tryping from in Oklahoma. Its a 1930 house which was mid remodle when the guy who owned it died and we got it for a steal. It took until August to get the work finished and I moved the beginning of September.

In November for Thanksgiving I went back for the holiday, taking the train. It was chocked full of ex californians, mostly natives or those who had lived there for many years, going back too and yet with no desire to return for more than a visit. Everyone, despite going to various locals (mostly Arkansas, Missouri, Texas and Oklahoma) said about the same about why they left.

I spent a week and a half there and could not wait to leave. It did nothing but confirm my reasons for wanting to get away. And it hadn't been that long even.

I'm a third generation native and remember back when the image some still fall for was true. But that state has vanished.

This was my first real winter here, and we had snow twice. Once came with an ice storm and lasted a week. The other was this strange late March snow storm that was gone by the next day. The coldest it got was 19degrees farenheit, windchill maybe 9, but who needs to go outside then. My socal body (lived in the valleys and desert areas all my life) didn't have a problem. A good heater and some warm clothes your good.

Spring so far has been excessive rain but it is making everything very green lol. Summer is said to be Hot and Humid. I come from Riverside the last many years and the heat can't be any worse and the humidity has gotten bad and keeps getting worse in Riverside/the IE. But at the end of summer is fall and fall here is wonderful.

But... people speak English, there is open space when you leave town, miles and miles and miles of it along a two lane highway. People don't sneer at you for being around (even more californians). The air is clean (and whatever the temperature the good weather is in socal when it makes your eyes water with the smog its not good weather). I don't have to even filter the tapwater. It tastes quite good.

This is what I was looking for, so the lack of much cultural diversity or the limited night life doesn't bother me. But that can be found. But food costs less than half, taxes are small, lots are big and there isn't a law telling me I can't do that at every turn.

I may not stay here forever but would certainly not go back to California. Right now the outmigration is the natives and long term residents. When their kids try to find a job and a place to live it will be their turn.

But I planned, long before anyone had a clue. Everyone thought I was suddenly struck with this thought of moving here but it had months of checking and research. What cemented it was my visit and seeing what I was missing.

One bit of advise though. Don't relocate somewhere you feel you have to change. Whatever you want to find from California is somewhere out there. The people there like it and you'll understand each other. Remember all the tradeoffs and ask if they are worth it. Look around... will you feel the need to tidy up the area? If its a place like here be prepared for tomorrow to be sometime in the near future. But you adjust... and when you visit all the rushing and hurry seems unnecessary.

Sure hate to say it but the small flood of refugees is going to swell and I miss the state that dissapeared somewhere along the way.

I have mentioned several good reasons for wanting to leave California.

Maybe you could give some examples of how a liberal philosophy in our state government is benefiting Californians.

You can't help yourself, can you? I don't know what a "liberal philosophy" is. I know how to eat and sleep and ***** and change diapers. Beyond that it's all pretty much hot air.

You know, that's what the politics forum is for.

Many people do it because they feel that the state government sets policies that make it harder for them to enjoy their life.

Actually, I think it makes them sound enlightened and realistic.

I have no idea how old you are but my best guess is that you're too young and inexperienced to have been around when California was conservative, the center of the aerospace industry, had enviable schools, English was the predominant language, unemployment and crime were comparitively low and the "American Dream" prevailed.

Pity!

Move out of my way, youngster. They don't have to do so drastically, nor does change necessarily mean for the better.
