I agree. But it depends on where in California. A cop who has to patrol the projects in Hunter's Point in San Francisco or Deep East Oakland is in the line of fire everyday. I grew up in Lakeview in San Francisco, and back in the 80's and 90's, some cops definitely got killed there. San Francisco had one of the highest per capita murder rate for police officers a year or two back in the 90's. Also, California ghettos are flooded with guys with large military issue firearms which you don't have in every state. But if you're a cop in Danville, I don't think it's that bad. People who have decent jobs in California get paid more to compensate for the high cost of living.

It's the same misleading fun house mirror effect that white people use to paint Asian Americans as "model minorities" because of higher median household income for Asian American families despite the fact that most Asian Americans are concentrated in California and New York, which have much higher costs of living than flyover state white middle America. Not to mention the fact that Asian American households usually have more people working. When you look at individual income, the average Asian American makes less money than similarly educated and or skilled whites.
