But Phoenix\ Yuma\ Imperial-Coachella valleys pull in moist muggy air from the Gulf of California by July & thunderstorms are not uncommon. For example, during the time I vacationed in Palm Springs. After dinner one night we decided to drive down to Indio to look at the groves of date palms. We only got down to Palm Desert & a wicked-looking thunderstorm was moving our way. As soon as it began to rain we turned back to our rental. The thunderstorm was as strong as I have ever seen w/ abundant lightning\ strong winds-dust\ torrential rains. It got so intense that we even left the sheltered porch for fear of dangerous lightning. The next day we saw on the news that Highway 111 experienced a flash flood & cars filled with mud right up to the car windows
Whatever you experienced on your weekend in our valley was a rarity. We don't have a lot of humidity. I've been to places with humidity - Ohio, Texas, Indiana, Virginia, Florida, Georgia. Trust me - we don't have humidity. We rarely have rain, so not a lot of humidity.

The warm dry air is great & most restaurants with patios have water sprays.
They don't close the whole thing - they only close about 1/2 mile of Palm Canyon Drive (aka 111) for Village Fest on Thursday evenings, but only for about 4 hours. You can still get around though by taking Indian Canyon.

Yeah, it's fun walking around looking at art & having dinner with music groups playing.

It is! Next time you're in our neck of the woods, you might also want to stroll through the College of the Desert Street Fair on Saturdays and Sundays from 7am until 2pm.

Is that a climate you could live in?
Well, I've been here for 5 years now, and really would like to leave. It is absolutely gorgeous during the winter and spring, but dang these summers are miserable. My husband was born here, and loves it. Me, I am coming to hate the summers with a passion. Give me snow. Please!

I know some people are real desert snowbirds & love the heat. My uncle & aunt separated because she could not handle the heat & isolation [they lived in Trona which is totally in the boonies & had to check for scorpions in their shoes each morning ]. I was raised in the Central Valley which isn't much better than the desert during summer [typically 100F for several months] and was glad to move to Los Angeles where it is warm but nothing like Palm Springs or Fresno.

We turn off the AC around sunset & open all the windows for the cool evening coastal breeze. Something you can not do in Palm Springs because there is no cool breeze until November

I spent a summer in Phoenix when I was a kid. Palm Springs is nothing.

My dad and I will be coming through this July and staying In Phoenix, Palm Springs, Barstow, Vegas and Needles before heading back east. Is there anyone that's spent a summer in Georgia or elsewhere in the southeast? I'd like to kinda compare the climates to see how different it may be.
