TOTALLY agree. Sure its cheaper, but the weather in those two places SUCK.

LOL! That's what I said about many of my friends and family when we moved to Denver... we started calling my bro-in-law and his girlfriend California Ken & Barbie on their early visits here. If it's below 60 degrees, it's freezing outside for them.
I'd never get my dad out of CA. He is so stuck on having two seasons - sun and a little bit of rain. You'd be surprised at how heavily CA's weather influences people's decisions. I know I was.

I am big on sunny days. That's why we chose Denver over the Pacific Northwest. We found that Denver climate is as mild as you can get outside of CA, with the idea of having 4 true seasons. It's just as sunny as San Diego out here all year. I don't think the weather here is bad at all really. But I do miss the winter rain at night - never thought I'd say that.
And I have to admit, I also miss the dry summers in NorCal - I just haven't gotten used to such inconsistent summer weather.... no such thing as "patterns" out here, except for afternoon thunderstorms in July and the possibility of getting 90% of the year's snowfall in a 6 hour March storm.
Still very livable out here year round though. But I don't know of anywhere that has the consistent and predictable weather CA does - maybe Seattle, since it rains most of the time (kidding).

Not everyone likes surprises (or extreme weather). It's tough to fault the weather when the most extreme you'll get is heavy rain - "heavy" being a relative term. But many people also like 4 seasons, which most of CA does not get.

Amen to that the air quality is poor it doesn't rain enough in the central valley and is like a desert [well almost] in the summer last year we had like 30 consecutive days of triple digits not to mention the economy and pay scale are bad too.
