If you are 3 years late you may want to take it out of state to register, unless you filed a non-op.
With a non-op you would not be late.
Three years over doubles each over due non payment, you are probably looking at well over $1200.

It's always nice to see people advocating for tax fraud.

My first advise would be to scrap the GMC for multible reasons.
Taking it out of state seems to be the only advice most would listen to.
I actually support the non-op program and the additional road tax added to our registration.

God dammit people, you pay ~50$ for registration, and we pay ~9000$ for the same car (denmark, europe)

Isn't only tax fraud if the vehicle was operated or parked on public property?

I restore cars for a hobby and most restorers use car trailers to transport unlicensed vehicles just to be compliant.

Just because you do doesn't make it right

Have you thought about starting a vehicle lobby group to introduce legislation on behalf of the motoring public? The California State Automobile Association is one such group here.

By the way... I don't know anyone that pays $50 for registration in California.

My 1962 Chevrolet cost $237 last year and this is for a car almost 50 years old

For some reason the auto registration fees have never bothered me. Maybe since I've lived in CA all my life and seen them go up and down or because I've always considered the annual fee to be part of the cost of owning a car. Kind of like insurance for cars, houses, life, health, etc. Those costs were always considered FIRST, then I figured out what I could actually afford.
