It will remain unchanged until the people of California have enough intelligence and will to clean house in Sacramento. The current crop of politicians is deeply entrenched and merely perpetuates itself every two to four years, creating family dynasties and destroying the state for its own immediate benefit.

Interesting, really?

From the Article:

"* Experiment. This is no time to cater to special interests or cleave to the status quo. Try something. If it doesn't work, try something else."

Couldn't they be more vague?

Among the cuts proposed:
  • Eliminate the CalWORKS welfare program which pays roughly $525 per month to 521,000 families.
  • Drop health care coverage for 1 million children under the Healthy Families program.
  • Reduce Medi-Cal coverage.
  • Eliminate non-emergency medical treatment for illegal immigrants.
  • Cut vocational and educational programs in the prisons.
  • Release non-violent offenders 1 year early.
  • Eliminate new CalGrants for college students.
  • Reduce CalGrant amounts for those already in the program.
  • Cuts to both the UC and CSU system budgets.
  • Cut state park funding in 1/2 this year and remove all state general fund money next year to the state parks. They would then operate on fees collected at the parks.
Minus the cuts in higher education, all of that looks good! This state needs to trim the liberal fat...

Calworks should have been cut long ago. Medical care for illegals??! give me a friggen break... that is a no brainer. These people shouldnt be here in the first place. cut their education and kick them the hell out of the country for that matter. They need to come in with job skills and a green card if they want to win my vote.

Keep the cuts coming as far as im concerned. Just keep public safety and education secure. Although school adminstrators should be getting pay cuts in my opinion... these guys are making over 100k in some cases. Ridiculous considering the fact the state usually cuts school programs FOR THE KIDS before they cut their over inflated salaries. Freaking retarded...

I agree. I also think it's interesting that they won't eliminate CalGrants but will cut the budget of the UC's and CSU's. How does that work? More people can afford to go to college but there is no place for them to go.

Go for the Arpaio (boot camp) approach in county jails and non max security state prisons. Imagine the savings.

There seems to be lots of small agencies that can be cut, and even though it may not make a huge difference in the overall budget it needs to be done and now is the time to do it. Then EVERYONE left on the government payroll can take a 5% pay cut. Some may leave (good), most will stay and complain (fine w/me), but that's what should happen before they stop funding schools and public safety, the things we want our tax money to actually pay for.

Voters in California keep voting to spend money on lots of other things. Either through ballot initiatives or by repeatedly electing activist legislators.

Overhaul the revenue stream (tax structure)
Weaken the unions
Attract business
Quit spending so damn much money!

So if I understand this correctly, an illegal immigrant can get free non-emergency medical treatment but an under or non insured American citizen living in California would be denied the same free treatment?
