Moving to Santa Clarita area, Help with neighborhoods!
Moving from Ohio, need help with the neighborhoods; which are better and safer? (Married with two daughters
Looking for 3-4 bedroom home with pool, rent from $2000-$2200 a month.
Areas I have found potential homes in:
Cherry Creek Drive, Valencia, CA, 91354
Claycrest Dr, Canyon Country, 91351
Thoughts on these areas?
Thank You.

If you don't get any good responses at least work
School Performance Maps
and continue to search the threads.
I know there are people on City-Data that know SC.
Also, you might have better luck posting in the LA forum too.

Valencia is much nicer and safer than Canyon Country. Also try Stevenson Ranch, Woodridge, Saugus & Castaic. I would avoid Canyon Country and Newhall. Good Luck.

Claycrest looks like it is in the Canyon Crest area off Whites Canyon. I don't like that area much. I know fires were licking the backs of some of those houses last year. I don't consider Cherry Creek Dr. to be Valencia, but Saugus. It is off Seco near Pamplico. Seco is pretty busy so be aware of that if the house backs up against it. There is a school right down the street and a park too. I like that area better.

Claycrest is half way up Whites Cyn. (on the mountain) Not great, but probably not too bad either. These are older 60's -70's homes. Farther up at the top, Whites becomes Plum Cyn, and everything is comparatively new. These new homes are lucky to have a back yard, never mind a pool. So if you want a pool, you're more likely to find one among the older homes along Whites. However, if you can do without the pool, the breeze is better at the top. Your kids can walk to the bottom (Soledad Cyn) easily from Claycrest, to shopping and restaurants, and Canyon High is just a few blocks from Claycrest.
Valencia is definitely more upscale. Once again, lots of smaller yards means few pools. However, for your girls, depending on which part of Valencia you're in, you'll appreciate the nicer walled n'hoods and nearby shopping. I seem to recall a YMCA with a pool in Valencia. You'll also be irritatingly close to 6 Flags Magic Mountain.
I would think that most of the schools on the (newer and more expensive) west side are probably better than those off White's Cyn (Canyon High, and Sierra Vista Jr Hi). Call the WS Hart School District and ask them.
Another consideration is the direction of your job. Hwy's 5 and 14 service the two sides of Santa Clarita. Driving Soledad across one side to the other can be a pain if you've already driven an hour on the freeway.

We may be moving to Santa Clarita and wondered if someone can advise on best locations to work - my husband may be transferring with his job but I would need to find employment as well. From what I have read on here - living in SC and commuting to LA is a nightmare...are there other "business-type" areas that are preferable to work and comparable in salaries from LA - where commuting would not be such a nightmare. I am in the legal IT field so working for a lawfirm of some sort is probably the type of job I would get once the move takes place. Thanks for any/all responses.

I don't know about salaries, but working right in Valencia would be nice. There is a business park along Rye Canyon and also off the 126 in what is considered Castaic. Both easy to get to. This valley is somewhat isolated. If you go north on the 5, there is nothing. If you go north on the 14 you have to drive 45 minutes to get to the Antelope Valley and I would not wish that on my worst enemy. If you drive west on the 126 there is nothing but oranges until you hit Ventura. If you drive south on the 5 you join millions of others.

Lots of traffic?? Are you kidding me? Lots of traffic compared to east bumblebee you mean. Have you even ventured out into the valley or LA? Dont listen to this post. Valencia/Santa Clarita has only a fraction of the traffic that the rest California has.
