They hunt people here with uzis and 12 guages.

Otherwise, no bowhunting in So Cal since the invention of the wheel.

I don't bow hunt (yet ... who knows, if my guns get banned). As I understand it, the southern part of Los Padres NF is / was known for it (mostly regarding deer). Caveat: I must admit, I have not done any sort of hunting in recent years (no time) and am no longer current with the bow hunting season and other restrictions.

I bet you use a 12 gage for deer hunting. Or is it bear hunting?

I've heard of bow hunting on Catalina, but I don't know if that is true or not.

Hunting is a popular activity in Los Padres National Forest. Game species include mule deer, black bear, wild pig, rabbit, wild turkey, quail, dove, band-tailed pigeon and chukar.

Thanks for that. It looks about a 60 mile drive from Los Angeles, which is fine for a day trip.

Aside from SUVs and rattlesnakes, there's not much to bowhunt here. SUVs are laughably easy and rattlesnakes are too hard.

The Los Padres link up above leads to a page that also has a nice State Fish and Game link. All the info and forms I've used in the past are on line there. Very good.
