So apparently Stockton residents are upset because a Bay Area county (Contra Costa) is setting up billboards in another Bay Area county (San Joaquin) to hire sheriffs. What is the matter with people in Stockton? What is wrong with looking for Bay Area residents to fill Bay Area positions? It would seem perfectly natural to advertise in the Bay Area (Stockton) for a Bay Area position (Contra Costa Sheriffs department).

It would be like Roseville residents complaining about Sacramento County Sheriffs placing a billboard in Downtown Roseville.

I think the article was more of a fluff piece or puffery than anything else. They probably just wanted something local to Stockton fill a bit of air time. Not really anything to take too seriously.

Police recruiting in neighboring towns and counties shouldn't be a big deal. It makes sense for them to cast a wide net when searching for talent.

Yeah, most Stockton residents could give a **** one way or another. You can take that to the bank.

Stockton went through a bankruptcy not too long ago and when that happens municipal employees tend to start thinking about looking for jobs elsewhere, they are afraid that post bankruptcy the City will be broke again before long and will come back to employees looking for further concessions. So I can understand the people in Stockton being sensitive and perhaps a little fearful about their own cops leaving for another agency, so they probably thought Co Co County was taking advantage of a situations that the residents had absolutely nothing to do with.

Stockton is not the Bay Area, which is defined by cities that surround San Francisco Bay, and Stockton does not.

But, the only reason they should care, is because they don't want to lose the best and the brightest from their blighted community. I can understand that, but to protest it is silly, IMO.

Stockton is not what most people would consider to be Bay Area, but gets lumped in for statistical purposes (along with Sacramento) by the Census bureau.
