Default cool june

This has been a cool/comfortable june so far in so.ca/inland. I have yet to use my cooler in my home. Thats not normal for this time of year. May was a hotter normal month. I know this cool weather wont last but ill enjoy it while its here. I have even put a xtra blanket on my bed. My windows dont go down in my car & the ac is broke so this is a welcome relief. I still though would rather live in the portland, oregon area then california. IF i ever came into alot of money it would be bye bye ca & f*** you to the thieving/corrupt ca legislature, govenor benedict arnold & the dmv.

Yep, June gloom. But it should be getting warmer in the afternoons, but so far, this is not the case. I'm going to a BBQ today, my friends live across from the Penisula, so I'll be wearing a sweater. In June???

Yes, this has been a cooler June than normal. But no complaints from me. I don't have air conditioning in my apartment, and fortunately, I have not needed it.

I live on the coast and I hate this crap, it's been below normal for weeks. I want it to heat up and the water to hit 70 so I can finally start enjoying the beach. The cool temps have been more bothersome than the clouds themselves imo. If I was inland I probably wouldn't mind it but I am so sick of temps in the 60's.

Down here in SD, it was a cool summer last year as well. I don't mind not having the really hot weather - - sleeping weather has been great!

Eagle,

Maybe in Yucipa it's going to warm up as predicted. But down by the coast, it's going to be in the low 70's. Hope it changes.

I remember a few years ago in early July, I was working at Point Mugu and we had some sort of employee picnic there. We were grilling and drinking cold soft drinks. It was cloudy and 58F. I was freezing wearing a down jacket.

I drove to Canoga Park later that afternoon and it was like 95F.

This is not June gloom. At the risk of getting a bit technical ...

The Pacific High, which normally moves north by May, has not only failed to move north, it is in a diminished form. Mid latitude weather systems, which normally are coming in far to the north by this time of year continue to graze California. Also, the jet stream is split, with a southern branch coming right over California.

Proximate causes appear to be a still colder than normal Pacific (due to the PDO having flipped from positive to negative in 2007) and a lack of solar activity.

Of note - some paleo climate studies suggest that during the last major episode of large scale glaciation, which melted off about 10K years ago, a similar weather regime may have been common. FWIW, YMMV.
