Trying to Embrace The Citylife Near Fairfield And Vacavilla
I am from NYC but my has me living in the countryside of England. I might be moving to Fairfield or Vacavilla. I would like to know which area has a city type feel?

I assume you mean "Vacaville." Neither place has a city type feel, they are both small cities in between the San Francisco Bay area and the Sacramento area. The name "Vacaville" literally means "cow town" (although the town was actually named after a guy named Juan Vaca) and that pretty much sums it up. Fairfield is pretty much the same. They are, at best, bedroom communities. They aren't bad places, but if you're looking for city type feel you won't find any there. If you're used to NYC, the closest thing you'll find to compare in the region will be in San Francisco.

if you're from NYC and have lived in England, i'm assuming you're somewhat .... hmmm, how do i say, sophisticated? Urbane perhaps? What's the opposite of provincial?
Anyway, if that's the case or even close to it, neither of the places you mentioned will do it for you .... at all.

Vacaville's a nice town, Fairfield isn't. If you have to live nearer to Fairfield, check out Suisun City (a city in name only). I think the safer part of Fairfield would be the northeast part of town, but don't quote me on that.

Vacaville has a urban core in their downtown. And fairfield also has a small urban core. But, really vacaville is the county seat and has it all. Costco, college, airport, family entertainment center, outlet mall, enclosed mall in fairfield, and the beach. you will have enough to do in vacaville. there r bars and clubs in their downtown.

I live in Vacaville and I really enjoy the town a lot. It has a lot of emenities as far as shopping goes, but Wburg is correct in saying it isn't a city -- certainly not. It's a suburb with about 100,ooo people. It is very safe and I've never heard of a murder here - though I'm sure there have been some in the past, but it isn't a violent city. It has recently had a string of robberies, but it's a safe and cute town (My favorite part being the north side of Alamo -- gorgeous hillside homes and neighborhoods).
Fairfield is OK, but you'll read everyday about robberies and shootings. Downtown Fairfield is a bit like Downtown Vacaville except for the fact that Vacaville's downtown outskirts are reaaaaaally cute going down Buck Street and in those neighborhoods whereas Fairfield's downtown area is one of the worst parts of the city. Fairfield is safe around the outskirts and there are some nice suburbs. Vacaville is pretty nice most everywhere with one exception being Monte Vista/Brown/Markham area is run-down.
The nice part about Vacaville though, is that if you want city-feel you're only 30 minutes from Sacramento, 40 minutes from Berkeley, 45 minutes from Oakland, and 1 hour from San Francisco. When I need my city fix, I just drive there.
