Default Where to buy? Antioch or Brentwood

We are a couple looking at buying our first home.

We have seen many house in Antioch (newer homes) and a few in Brentwood. I was advised by the Agent showing the open house in Antioch that Brentwood is a better place to buy.

We mainly saw homes below or close to Lonetree between deervalley and hillcrest or around there, We really didn't any of the old Antioch. We saw some shopping center and a cineplax. It seems like a decent city to live in.

Brentwood.....We got the same feeling as the houses that we saw in Antioch, they appear to be the same neighborhood look. It seems that Brentwood is about $20k more than Antioch when comparing the same size footage and neighborhood (they look like they are about the same, though there could be more that meets the eyes).

So, whats your take on either of these cities, comparisions would be great.

Thanks,

Always go with the better neighborhood. Besides, doesn't "Brentwood" sound better than "Antioch"?

Go with Brentwood - the area you mentioned between Lone Tree and Balfour and Deer Valley and Walnut. Mostly newer homes, schools, retail, etc.

Before the housing slump, it was an up and coming area. Haven't been there in about 6 months, so I don't know what the housing situation is.

BRENTWOOD!!!!!!!!!!!! Antioch has become one big ghetto. Maybe the area might change over time but I wouldn't buy there.

Thanks for the responses, it appears that no matter who we talk to, the advice is to steer clear of Antioch and go for Brentwood. Is Antioch low on police? We only seen 1 patrol car during 7 hours of looking at houses and driving around. So, whats the good and bad of Brentwood? Whats good with Antioch? Thanks

Brentwood houses tend to be newer and bit more high end than Antioch. The area down Lone Tree seems decent enough though, along with all the new shops near the Brentwood border. The rougher parts of Antioch tend to be the older rundown housing near downtown or Gentrytown Dr. All the bads associated with Brentwood apply to Antioch (middle of nowhere, horrible traffic, hot, foreclosures), except it has better schools and housing, which is why it trumps Antioch in mostly everyones opinion.

Of the 2, Id say Brentwood cause its smaller, quieter and seems cleaner. Plus the rural feel there(that exists for the time being) is refreshing.
