Moving to Tehachapi
I'm planning to move from the San Fernado Valley (Los Angeles) to Tehachapi later this year. Are there any good places by the Union Pacific railroad tracks?

There is a lot of real estate near the tracks... What are you looking for? Do you want to be in town, in the hills? Do you want to overlook the tracks? Do you want them in your front yard?

I'm looking to be in town and as close to the tracks as possible. The trains are in my blood after a 16 year career with them.

I recommend looking on East F or E Streets... prime RR locations. I grew up on East F until I was in junior high and we moved out to the hills, where you can still hear the trains, by the way... the tracks are a stone's throw from East F. That being said, really anywhere in town is close to the tracks. I don't necessarily recommend the North side of the tracks for a 16-year old, although Tehachapi is going to be like Mayberry compared to LA to you all. It's all relative.
Also, this is just my opinion, but I prefer the older homes in town. The homes in the new developments are pieces of crap. The older homes might need a few upgrades, but they have been and will be there for a long time. They survived the earthquake of 1952!
Call Theresa Mann. She's a local realtor who I grew up with... A local girl and a good person. Am I allowed to refer you to someone on this site?? I think it's okay because I'm not advertising. Anyways, call her. She doesn't usually do "town" properties, but will refer you to the best town agent. Tell her "Mole" sent you. That is my so-very-flattering childhood nickname .

You don't know how nice it is to see someone who loves the trains wanting to move to Tehachapi. I despise the transplants who complain about the trains... "Don't move there, then!" Hope you like wind turbines, too!

I have visited Tehachapi many times, but was not there long enough to scout around for a place to live. If we meet each other Mole, I have an extra copy of a Southern Pacific Employee Railroad Timetable for the entire western region. It covers everything south of Portland, Oregon; west of Ogden, Utah andvwest of El Paso, Texas. If you are interested I'll send or give ypu a copy. It's in mint condition. I can't thank you enough for your time and help!!
