California Dreamin........
The current financial situation for the state of California makes me sad I lived in the Napa Valley for a year, moved to Oregon, but always hope to relocate back to California some day.
Californians...... do you feel any hope for the future of your state? or should I give up my dream ?

Actually Charles has a point. If your choices are between staying in Oregon -- and watching its current political and economic trajectory play out...or moving to California -- which is a few months further ahead in its decline -- is there really all that much difference in the long run?

California has ALWAYS been for dreamers. Sometimes they come true here, sometimes they don't.
I personally believe California has a great future. It has reinvented itself in bad times more often than probably any other state. I expect it will again.

yay!
Here here! (or is it hear hear!)?
Good to see the positive cali-vibe coming out. I agree, how many times do you hear oregonians and washingtoners whine about cali people moving to their area? Meanwhile, we californians (most of us anyway) are welcoming to everyone. Oregon doesn't offer half of what cali does, come on home.

I personally think CA has been in a process of gradual decline for at least the last 20 years, maybe 30. Since the decline doesn't go down in a straight line, it allows a lot of people to live in denial.
I don't see things changing becuase most Californians don't believe that our socialist legislature is the source of many of our problems. Or, alternatively, they think the legislature as a body is bad but the legislator from their particular district is ok.

Been my dream forever, but all the negativity on the CA forums has been pretty successful at keeping me from moving there. If it's a scare tactic, it has worked.
*prepares for another brutal winter as his dream slips further and further...*

jc, don't let the doomers on the forum steal your dream! Take everything you hear on this forum with a Big Grain of salt!
Really, if you can endure the weather of the MidWest you understand roughing it. And I don't think the economy where you are at is much better in terms of job opportunities than in CA. Sure CA is going through difficult times, but so are many of the other states. Because these are harder times than CA seen in a long time you have a lot of ppl fleeing for greener pastures. But some will return when they realize the grass isn't always greener in the MidWest, South or East Coast. Sometimes things have to get worse before getting better. But CA is still a great place to live. Remember you only need one good job.
And if you don't come out you'll be kicking yourself always wondering 'what if?' But life is too short for that. So work toward your dream and give it a go. At the very worst you could always head back to the MidWest after living out here for a while. Focus on your goal, find a job and give it a go. Thats all you need to do.
My 2c,
Derek
