Default Cost to attend University in CA

I was searching Cost to attend University in CA and found some info on:
Top 50 Ranked Universities in California for Highest Overall School Score

From there I found that for example for Stanford University

Total Cost On-Campus Attendance $49,227

What i don't understand, if this amount for 1 year or for getting degree?

Stanford University Financial Aid

Tuition, room, and board at Stanford costs approximately $43,400 annually. Books and personal expenses are estimated at about $3,200 annually. Stanford is need-blind in its admission process, meaning that applying for financial aid does not affect the admission decision.

I wonder how many people who currently attend Stanford (and know how to use the internet) also would have had a hard time finding this out.

Stanford is a Private school so it's going to cost you that per year. Just like all private schools will cost you more.

CA State schools are basically the same price as anywhere else.

Although there is a difference in cost for California residents and those who are residents of other states or countries.

It typically takes 1 full year to be able to claim you are a California resident. That assumes a person cuts all ties to their previous out-of-state home.

California community colleges are well respected, though. There isn't that same sort of stigma that comes with community colleges as there was back on the East Coast. In the San Diego community colleges, I actually knew lots of Canadians (which I'm assuming the OP is with that username) who came for a year to establish residency and took core courses at MiraCosta College before transfering over to UCSD and the like.

Maple, before you assume that kind of debt (200k for a BA) read the thousands of stories at studentjustice about how their lives were ruined for the rest of their lives taking on a fraction of that kind of debt--unless your parents are the Rockefellers, in which case they'll pay cash up front for you.

Actually Stanford now waives undergraduate tuition for most low-income students , which in that part of California means income less than $100K. I wouldn't worry about Stanford unless you are truly an outstanding student with plenty to offer more than good grades. .

I believe for Stanford that is a one year attendance.

I am familiar with the University of California system. Those universities include UC Davis, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, etc.

The hard costs that would include room, board, books, misc. fees and tuition will run $20,800/ year. That is the amount for a recent June, 2009 grad. Of course, the housing can run higher and lower in some areas. The cost is for Santa Barbara which is fairly pricey for housing. And, travel to and from the school is extra.

Hope this helps a little.
