Is this some sort of pariah or unspoken taboo or something? Stop beating around the bush and just legalize gambling here. It'd solve our deficit issue forever. To he*l with Las Vegas and Indian casinos. We allow horse racing and the lottery. We're nearly half-way there. Just go all the way, build a Las Vegas here in Cali that residents would flock to and we'd be in the black inside of a couple of years. Yes, I know the social issues that would follow but gambling is just a sin activity. People don't have a gun to their heads. They take responsibility for their actions. If you don't have the money to lose, don't participate. Stupid, stupid politicians.

Weed is too hot a political potato. The feds wouldn't allow it anyway. And it would have the revenue stream that gambling would.

Why did California even allow Indian casinos in the first place? Indian Casinos suck, they don't even have free drinks or craps. Lame.

Gambling does not add to the economy. It takes from those that have saved. It doesn't produce anything of value. Gambling is a system that transfers wealth from individuals but does little to add revenue to anything other than those that are in the business. In this case as you suggest the state. In my oppinion they take plenty from me, why would I offer them more of my hard earned money. Let business get us out of this mess by allowing them to work here at a profit and drop business taxation. Lets keep companies here in the state and stop chasing them away.

It doesn't seem to have hurt Nevada, which would still be one giant desert sh*thole if not for Las Vegas. If big business insists on keeping 90% of revenue, Sacramento should tell them to shove it and build the casinos itself and keep 100% of the profits. Time to stop subsidizing Las Vegas with Cali $$$$'s.

...and then we can legalize prostitution too, but the real winner occurs when we legalize "gambling on prostitution".

sounds like you and my husband could be best friends: We have a few around here that have a crap table, same in NM but they are rarely open and as for drinks, we are all to spoiled. I want NV or the river boat casinos with the drinks in LA, and MS.

I agree with you, of course it adds to the economy, first it adds jobs, then the tax revenue. I remember when we almost moved to Vegas (way before the real boom) hubby was within a hair of getting a job. One of the things that attracted us to the area was the low propberty taxes compared toVA, CA and TX.

We do have legal gambling in CA. There are all those clubs in Gardena and City of Commerce. I've never been, but I know they are gaming establishments. I think most people like the idea of Vegas staying in Vegas. Vegas is tacky, but it's a great quick getaway for a lot of folks. Having it right here in our own backyard would take away all the fun of the getaway!
