hi, I'm 18 and I plan on making a move (on my own) from northern nj to Cali. I've grown tired of the weather, area, just about very thing else also lol. I've done some research but I'd rather talk about it with people who more than likely can tell me more than a blog, article, etc.

Places I've looked at:
prismo beach
Sacramento
Stockton
goleta/iv/Santa Barbara
la

I need a cheap ($750 and below) apartment, hopefully somewhere near the coast but not rural (I love city life)
I've looked into co op housing, but have seen limited options as far as that. any knowledge/suggestions are helpful!

ps. I also enjoy music and visual arts so any places that cater to artistic individuals are welcome!!

I assume you're interested in having roommates? And working 2-3 jobs (since you don't have a degree or much experience at 18)? $750 near the coast and near a city does not exist unless you're interested in sharing a place. And Sacramento and Stockton are not near the coast so how did they get on your list?

How much money do you have saved up? Generally, you're better off going to college right where you are and then once you have a degree and experience and are employable consider moving. Lots of 18 year olds want to live in CA. Some end up going back home with no money, some end up homeless, and very few actually make a go of it.

California is expensive and $750 per month near the coast is nearly impossible.

Pismo Beach is the "cheapest" place on your list. It's mostly a retiree place with service jobs. It is possible to squeeze out a studio there around $750 but the pickings would be slim.

I'm not familiar with the northern cities on your list.

Los Angeles is obviously able to provide any lifestyle you desire but $750 isn't going to get you near the beach. On that budget something east of downtown or in the valley is possible.

Do you have any job prospects? Skills? Plan?

I wouldn't mind a roommate but I haven't had any luck with anyone around my area and I'm skeptical of looking online for one. Stockton and Sacramento only made my list because they're cheap and near they bay so it didn't seem to be that bad to consider. I have $2,000 saved which I think is enough to give it a go for at least a couple of months but I would rather stay for longer.
theres nowhere out there that would accomidate me even in the slightest? lol

if I can't make the rent for a near coastal apartment, it's not that big of a deal. it was just a preference I felt I should mention. I'm into music and painting, and I plan on having a career in either one/both. it won't happen soon, I know, but for I now I just want a change of scenery

For what it's worth, your wanting to leave home and see the world is very normal for someone your age.

If you can qualify, I would suggest you talk to a military recruiter.

There are many benefits and opportunities for young adults who aren't sure what they want to do, but know they want to leave home.

The reality of it is, as others have mentioned, you aren't ready for California.
