Default Why do we need a Front License plate in California but not other states?

Many states don't require this, but here it's mandatory. Why? I got a ticket the other day for not having a front plate, I don't have a front plate because I don't have holes drilled in my front bumper for one. What is the purpose? It's ugly too.

So they can give you a red light camera ticket from either direction.

Do we know if California is the only state with that type of multi-directional red light camera technology? (I have CA plates on the front of our vehicles in Alabama. A lot of people do that. TX, CA, VA on the front, and AL on the back.)

Required on vehicles below a certain GVW and that includes Passenger Cars...

Law Enforcement is very strong in support of Front Plates...

All cars sold in CA have to have a provision to mount the front plate... some use a bracket system... most just use 2 self-tapping screws right into the composite bumper.

After I got sick of getting front plate tickets on my 300ZX I got some L brackets to mount a plate without drilling holes into the front of my bumpers. I agree that it's ugly but at least my G35 has a recessed area in the bumper so the plate doesn't stick out.

License plate blockers are illegal in California. You can be ticketed for installing one over your plates.

Photoblocker Spray at that link is also illegal in California.

So if they catch you using, buying, selling, or maybe even in possession of it you run a risk.

Throw the plate in your front window. Technically, I believe it's legal to do that, I know plenty of friends get away with it in the back window
