the recession won't touch her, pun or what? I couldn't resist that one.

yes, if people are willing to make sacrafices and especially are very young it is amazing how much one can accumulate. The problem, too many of us didn't use our heads when we were your age, me included!!!

Yeah, you are missing something. First you're going to have to find a company who is willing to sponsor you to be eligible to work in the US. I'm sure it's an easier process being from Canada than other countries, but I wouldn't get your hopes up either, it's an extremely difficult and often unfair process. Assuming you can get a work visa AND get a job offer with a California company, be hired directly out of college (it happens, but the general rule is your employment opportunities right out of college is usually dependent on who recruits from campus), AND get that salary level you mentioned earlier, than yes... you won't have anything to worry about when it comes to living in California.

I'll be the first to admit that I have done minimal research on exactly what is required to move to the US. I always assumed it was a matter of being accepted to the country, not needing a work visa. Aren't work visas for people who aren't planning on staying in the country? Like I said though, I haven't looked into that in too much detail since this would still be quite a ways away. I know a lot of people from my college get hired by companies in the US right out of college... It might not be CA but meh. I might not even go straight there.
Tonight I am finished all of my tests and projects, so I'll do some research.

Not necessarily. Actually you will probably want to start with a work visa assuming you can get one and go from there.

I also know a stripper that owns 3 homes in 3 states. She grew up near me in Port Hueneme. Maybe she is the same one. What are the odds? Then again maybe plenty of strippers are living a similar life. She can afford to live here in the state on what they get.

The one I'm talking about grew up in Idaho... she moved to California (Lancaster area) when she was young, which is how we met. That would be weird, though.
She works weekends in Vegas and occasionally does guest spots at strip clubs and clears six figures working less than 7 days a month.
