True, however, they know fully the risk they take when they say "I wanna fight crime, risk my life for some stranger, and get paid dept. store wages to do it."

2 ways to see it.

The only reason I ended up out here was due to my mother's insistence of having my sister and I be with all our relatives who came here from Vietnam to California. Otherwise, I just don't feel really feel any emotional connectedness to this place. Frankly, if I had just stayed in Kentucky the entire time and never came out here, I would've been none the wiser (and definitely alot happier...)

And why does that make a difference in how much they should be paid?
Boxcar Overkill, to answer your previous question, read my post from 9/5 where I discuss not only what it takes to become a police or firefighter- and few have the abilities to do those jobs- but what they have to endure throughout their careers and the toll it takes on most of them. Most are paid a fair wage but many have better pay do to a classic supply/demand issue in their region, like other in-demand jobs whether private or government.

To repeat, what does that have to do with the price of spaghetti in Italy? The endless complaining from cops and firefighters about how underpaid and underappreciated they are is nothing but whining. If they don't like it, they can quit. There are probably 10 applicants waiting to take their place. That's how I know they're grossly overpaid (not just in salaries, but pensions and benefits too). Too many applicants.

I think that's obviously and demonstrably false. There is always a great excess of applicants to fire and police academies. Better pay is the opposite of what one would expect.

I have the question the validity of this post especially after viewing the poster's profile photo:

You are not alone. Many first generation Americans and even many immigrants no longer see California as the "Promised Land:"

What, are you a mercenary or intelligence agent? (based on your vagabondish life and places in this list)
