The older man asked, "What were the people like in the place you used to live?" James said, "They were rude and unfriendly." The older man said, "Well, that's what the people here are like, too." Upon hearing this, James moved on.
A while later, a kind young man named George, also in search of a place to live, arrived in the same town. He asked the same elderly gentleman what the people in that town were like. Once again, the older man asked, "What were the people like in the place you used to live?" George said, "They were polite and warm." The older man said, "Well, that's what the people here are like, too." Upon hearing this, George decided to stay.

All these other posts should be deleted. Your's is the correct answer, and nothing else needs to be said. I said the same thing, but you said it nicer...!

Well I think this thread has served testament that SoCal has a large population of it's people, somewhat captured in here, who aren't all that nice.
Nothing in here has swayed me on the subject, perhaps vindicated my thoughts.
There is validity to a 'relativistic' attitude toward life. You see what you want to see. But then there also 'is what is'..

Because the environment of Southern California with its emphasis on the car and its emphasis on isolation encourages people to be rude and hostile.
I still maintain that L.A. has the rudest, most hostile people on the PLANET, not just the country. Paris and Munich look friendly by comparison, and so does NYC.

If you're constantly finding people being rude to you then you might want to take a look in the mirror for the reason. Usually people invite the reactions they get. I'm not a particularly friendly or outgoing person but am polite and courteous and I rarely come across rude people here. I usually come across pretty nice and friendly people that smile or joke around with me. Some people on here have some personal problems they like to project on the city/area they live in and blame it.

Plenty of rude people here in South Florida, go to a Marlins vs Yankees baseball game sometime, can't say there is much to compare when the Dodgers are in town.

I've never been all over the world but I have lived in many states and other countries and I assure you some of the rudest people I have ever met in a half century of life are on the Left Coast.
Not all, to be fair. To paint with too wide a brush would be stupid, but from my experience, by and large there are far more rude people on the Left Coast and Upper Right Coastal regions of the United States.
Cali and the East Coast. Hands down.
You'll have to change your behaviour if you are not happy with that global perspective, Californians.
I think it is a good idea to start taxing stoners. Tax the junk food too.
They will have the munchies bigtime.
