You wouldn't run a business with a part time CEO and senior management, so why run the world's tenth largest economy that way?

California does need "citizen legislators" as opposed to career politicians, however, a "part-time legislature" in and of itself doesn't really solve the problem. Besides, the CA legislature is only half the problem. The other half are those idiotic propositions on the ballots.

California needs to divide itself into about 40 different "metro states" and/or "region states", decentralize governance, and then have "representatives" from the "metro states" meet in Sacramento once a year. The representatives should only be paid stipends.

Democracy doesn't work in big states. Never has, never will. The only viable solution is to make it so that California is a "big state" on paper only.

Texas does alright with a part-time Legislature. Unless the Governor calls a special session, it only meets for 6 months out of every two years.

Sometimes, that's a curse. Sometimes, it's a blessing. But, overall, it works far better for us than would a full-time Lege because our liberties are safer, longer.

It cant be any worse then what they are doing now. If we get enough signatures by dec 7th it will go on the ballot 11-10. I guarantee you the politicians will be sweating big time. Karen "buzz cut" bass is a horrid lady as well as other law makers & if i had my way they would be fired, tared & feathered. Buzz cut bass says people that bad mouth the ca legislature & govenor are terrorists (like john & ken on kfi am 640, los angeles). Shes a creep!

Keep in mind the legislature has wayyyy too much time on there hands & are law crazy. LOTS of them get vetoed every yr by the govenor. The democrats love the illegal alians yet they never had any living next to them or in the neighborhood. I have & i will never ever again. Everytime i go to nasty, dirty San Bernardino to work i see them everywhere. They often sell bath tub cheese or tacos in the stater bros/big lots parking lot on waterman/baseline. Security runs them off but they just return later.

Thumbs up State Legislature is not the CEO or senior management of CA. They are the equivalent to a Board of Directors.

The CEO of the State of California is the Governor; the senior management consist of the Insurance Commissioner, the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Secretary of State, Lieutenant Governor, State Controller, and State Treasurer. This is the Executive Branch of Government. Full time.

The people of the State of California are the shareholders.

The Legislature is the Board of Directors that the people of the state have put into place to keep the checks and balances of the Executive and Judicial Branches of Government.

What Board of Directors in any for profit or nonprofit operates full time? They set policy, provide oversight for the proper implementation of policy by their CEO and Management, provide the approval of the allocation of funds to properly run the entity, and assure the fiscal integrity of the organization. Parttime!

Using a business or non profit model, the California State Legislature should function as the Board of Directors, part time. They need to refocus on their mission and their primary functions. The mission of the California Legislature is to:
  • Preserve the checks and balances of state government by the independent exercise of legislative powers;
  • Adopt a system of laws that promote the health, education and well-being of Idaho's citizens;
  • Preserve the state's environment and ensure wise, productive use of the state's natural resources;
  • Carry out oversight responsibilities to enhance government accountability; and
  • Raise revenues and appropriate monies that support necessary government services.
Let's get the state legislators back to their core mission duties, part time, and let the rest of the branches of government do their jobs. Visit Citizens for California Reform download a petition get signatures and let's get this thing done!

Many states have gone to a one house legislature. That would be a start

If you have lived in the state of California for any length of time, you have witnessed the demise of the once "Golden State" to a bankrupt farce. California citizens have been victimized by a corrupt legislature that only represents their self interests. California is one of a handful of states that employs their legislators full time. It is time to replace these self serving elitists with a body that has to have a full-time job outside of government. Forcing the legislature off the state doles will help stop the professional politicians from sucking the state dry.

I am tired of all the greed. they need to get the job done or fire them all and get someone that will get it done. they need to be just like us,cut back in pay, lose their retirement and work till they are 70 just to get by. 95 days is plenty of time to work within the states budget and pass laws that the public wants not what they want. they need to listen to the people and quit spending and taxing us for their little projects.

No, only one has a unicameral Legislature: Nebraska. And, it's been that way since statehood.
