there are counties in california that do not require smog and the only time a smog check is required only when you buy and transfer names on a vehicle the counties that do not require a yearly smog is inland empire county, riverside county in some locations needles ca plumas county, siskyou county, humbolt county, trinity county, Mendocino county, inyo county, and many more just very few people are told of these counties

The DMV only recognizes PO Boxes for mailing purposes only. You still have to have a street address on file with them.

There are two to three parts to the smog check. Visual, functional, and tailpipe. The visual inspection verifies all the original emissions equipment is installed. Functional checks verify things such as the EGR, smog pump, heat riser, and other things are working. You can do these two parts yourself. The Bureau of Automotive Repair might even send you a list of what needs to be checked for your vehicle.
