There is some interesting housing cost comparisons in this info I was just reading.
http://ziprealty.typepad.com/.a/6a00d83452bf4469e20120a525cd27970c-pi
ZipRealty.com was looking at reductions in the listing prices in 29 different markets during July.
But the analysis also includes median list prices in the markets. It does not include a comparison of home size, lot, or amenities for that price, simply a price median.
Orange County ($649,900 median) and the Bay Area ($599,999 median) are basically in a league of their own in this sample (it does not include some markets like New York).
Los Angeles at a $344,900 median price is similiar in median price to Seattle, Washington DC, and Boston.
Sacramento at $231,990 median price is similar to Charlotte, Minneapolis, Raleigh, Richmond, Salt Lake City, and Tucson.
Fresno/Bakersfield at a $180,000 median price is similiar in median price to Houston, Jacksonville, Las Vegas, Orlando, and Tampa.
San Diego was not a market they tracked in this study.
Also looking at just July it appears their numbers show:
Quote:
In July, homeowners reduced their list price on average by slightly more than 10 percent. Las Vegas logged the biggest percentage reduction in list prices, at an average of 23 percent. Denver and Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, had the smallest price cuts, with list prices in both metro areas cut on average by 5 percent, ZipRealty said.
Of the markets surveyed, those with the highest percentage of price-reduced homes were Orlando, Florida, at 52.4 percent; Jacksonville, Florida, at 50.2 percent; and Chicago, at 48.90 percent, the company said.
Markets with the lowest percentage of price-reduced homes were Denver, at 31.7 percent; Bakersfield/Fresno, California, at 35.2 percent; and the San Francisco Bay Area, at 37.7 percent, indicating that prices in these real estate markets may be stabilizing, ZipRealty said.

I guess I am used to just bolding everything because I messenger a lot and it's easier to see my words vs. others if it's different.

It looks a bit like shouting vs emphasis on particular words. But I guess all upper case and bold could look worse.

Welcome to my world!
Welcome to my world, Kalika. I have been aggressively scouring the market for a home and despite several offers and having looked at dozens of properties I have gotten nowhere. And I thought this was the right time. Problem is that I now have to compete with these real estate conglomerates who are buying up foreclosures and short sales en masse and then putting them back on the market at higher prices. It ruins the chances for single income people like me who just want a nice, modest place to call home.
I am so frustrated now that I am seriously thinking of calling it quits. I wanted to move out of Cali for a long time and should have done it years ago when I had the chance. Now I am actively looking up north again. Who needs this aggravation? It isn't like Cali is the golden state any longer. Frankly, the quality of life here is in a tail-spin.

See comments above from other posters... it's just generally viewed as poor forum etiquette. Don't mean to jump all over you... just wasn't sure if you were aware of this.

I may not live forever - but the inheritance in the form of appreciated real estate will.
And, for the purposes of estate planning, a primary residence is not a countable asset when eligibility for Medi-Cal financing of nursing homes in considered. This means, Joe from his $4M home gets "free" nursing home care while Bill, with $3M in the bank has to spend almost all of it before he is eligible for Medi-Cal

No, actually I was under the impression ALL CAPS was interpreted as yelling. As I said, I messenger all the time in bold and really didn't give it a thought.
Now what was this thread actually about again??
I'm sorry to the OP.
