Default Moving to Colton to Work - Need help on where to live

We are moving to CA. I have to work in Colton area - but would like to live in the area where:
1. Area that kid friendly
2. But - do not want the "burbs" - looking for more of a Yuppie (with ethnic diversity) area where there are good restaurants, some night life, good shopping, etc... (if there is such a thing in existance...)
3. An area where you can actually walk to places (i.e. supermarket, corner diner, etc..) and do not require a car all the time.
4. The commute to Colton should be reasonable - (less than 30 min)
Any reccomendations?

Suggestions apprectiated....

Thanks

Rent or Buy?
Housing budget?
Spouse working too? Where?
Kids ages?

Of course you have a lot of basic research to perform. Here's my basic toolbox to help out. Focus on school performance and redfin and Sigalert.com Los Angeles Traffic Map.

After you have researched, ask the forum for specifics.
